Today’s free tip is in the Turkish Super Lig encounter between Trabzonspor and Alanyaspor.
I believe it’s worth backing Trabzonspor today. It goes without saying that Trabzonspor is good at home; every Super Lig followed knows that. However, it’s more about the feel good nature of the squad under Karaman that convinces me to trust them nowadays. Each time I watch Trabzonspor play, they’re wholly convincing because of their positive mental attitudes and their excellent attacking players. No, they’re not a complete squad, and they’re not going to compete for major honours any time soon. However, this is a good attacking team that knows how to unsettle its opponents. It’s hard to doubt a team like that.
Yes, the absence of Onazi and Pereira makes me a bit more uneasy than usual but when I see an attack that is being controlled by Sosa, I feel more reassured. Furthermore with Amiri, Nwakaeme, and Omur providing great speed and movement in wide positions, it’s not hard for target man Ekuban nor in-form Colombian Rodallega to impress. There’s a very good chemistry in this Trabzonspor attack and with such pace and movement available to Karaman, it’s hard to envision Trabzonspor failing to win most home games this season. Istanbul BB only won in Trabzon by outscoring their hosts; they were given a very good game along the way though. Most teams have failed to get something from their trip to Trabzon this season. It’s a tough away game made tougher by the convincing way in which Trabzonspor attacks teams, and I expect more of the same today.
Alanyaspor can be a pain to play against because of their attack but with half of their defence out, they’re going to need to score at least twice to get something from their trip to Trabzon. I don’t even think they’d manage it then because if it comes down to an open game – and it’s looking increasingly likely that it will – then Trabzonspor should really beat Alanyaspor. Do Alanyaspor really have a say in the matter though? They can’t contain Trabzonspor without Tzavellas and N’Sakala, especially not if Sackey fails his late fitness test too.
Now, I don’t doubt that Alanyaspor’s attack will cause problems for Trabzonspor because that’s what it is designed to do. Take Chilean winger Fernandes, for example. He was always under Soudani’s shadow whilst playing at Dinamo Zagreb because he lacked the end product that the Algerian produced more often than not. Nothing has changed since then. Fernandes is still lightning fast and he sure does look the part but his decision-making and final ball are not good for most of the time. They’ve got a couple of natural poachers in Bobo and Cisse but Bobo doesn’t look fit enough for this level anymore and Cisse certainly can’t create chances on his own. Basically, Alanyaspor’s attack is all about Djalma and Fernandes – and neither of them are consistent performers. Their threat is obvious but in general, they won’t show up.
Too often Alanyaspor ship goals on the road. Their style is not geared up for away games. All the want to do is outscore teams but they’re not geared up to do it against good teams and at this moment in time, Trabzonspor is a good team. Therefore, even though Trabzonspor is without Pereira and Onazi, I think the home win has got to be worth trying today given Alanyaspor’s absence of a “Plan B” and their absence of two key defenders.
Verdict: Trabzonspor to win at 19/20.
