Today’s free tip is in the German Bundesliga 2 encounter between Eintracht Braunschweig and Karlsruher SC.
It seems like whenever I actually oppose despondent Eintracht Braunschweig, they actually remember how good they’re capable of being, and prove me wrong. They’ve picked up four points from a possible six lately, which have come against what I personally class as two of the best teams in the division, Nurnberg and SV Sandhausen respectively. It’s not easy to get points off such teams, and the eastern Germany outfit deserve a lot of credit for achieving such with a limited squad.
However, there’s a lot wrong at this club, and I can’t help but feel that their return to the Bundesliga 2 may be a brief one. This team simply does not score enough goals, and despite his promising start to his career at the club, Abdulahi has not been the man that they needed him to be. He’s lively enough, but not clinical enough, and has been injured for a few weeks now. There simply isn’t another consistent goal-scorer in this squad, and even Proschwitz’s impressive form doesn’t convince me. In a high-scoring division, this team needs more of an attacking threat – and they don’t have it.
The writing was on the wall last season, to be fair, as Polish midfielder Kobylanski carried them. I figured they had learned from that, hence Abdulahi’s arrival, but it’s really not worked out. It gets worse for today’s hosts, though. It’s no longer just Abdulahi that’s out of their attack, but also the afore-mentioned Kobylanski, and there really isn’t a replacement for either player in terms of the goal threat that they both offer. They don’t have enough strength in depth to cope without both of them. If they avoid defeat today, it’ll purely be down to the charity of Karlsruher SC, I promise you, because they’re not smart enough to outsmart teams, and they’re not good enough defensively to contain them. All they can hope to do is outscore teams, but without their two best attackers, that seems very unlikely for the newly-promoted home team.
Karlsruher SC are slowly easing into their groove too, which helps. They’re a limited squad themselves but boss Eichner has this remarkable ability to always get the best out of them, which is a healthy booster. Of course, it’s still all about massive target man Hofmann up front though. With him, they’re dangerous; without him, they struggle. They were awful at the start of the season when he was injured, but it’s been like watching another team entirely since his return. He’s now bagged four in five too! It’s almost as if he’s actually Terodde’s brother in secret!
Djuricin is out for the visitors, but I don’t remember the last time he scored a goal for anyone so I won’t lose sleep over it despite his more than obvious capacity to be a good player. Other than that, only young midfielder Hanek is out, so Eichner has his strongest squad available to him today, barring the Austrian attacker. There’s a very good combination of pace and brawn in this team; I will give Karlsruher SC that much. Their overall balance is impeccable. Again, it’s not a particularly good team on paper, but it’s one that frequently performs above its best, and that’s what makes them dangerous to write off. I can see them having a lot of fun against an Eintracht Braunschweig side that have no attack today too.
The away win at 6/5 really does appeal to me here.
Verdict: Karlsruher SC to win at 6/5.
