Today’s free tip is in the Australian A-League encounter between Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United.
This is the A-League so I can accept weird shit happening sometimes. Adelaide United being priced as underdogs against Brisbane Roar doesn’t make any sense to me though, even in Brisbane. The hosts are ballsy and determined but lack quality; their opponents have plenty of it. It just doesn’t make any sense.
For what it’s worth, I think Roar will trouble them here. I’d be staggered if they didn’t, actually. Boss Moon has said that Ivanovic is fit enough to start after two impressive cameos, and their kids are doing pretty well this season. Even when confronted with far superior teams over the past fortnight, they’ve still given their all, and have come close to causing upsets in both games. They started well against Victory, and only an own goal sent them on a downward spiral. They were battered by City for seventy minutes but hemmed them in at the end. They’re not a team to take lightly, in other words. If I couldn’t ‘draw no bet’ this selection, I would not be getting involved!
However, I can do that, and I fully intend on doing so. The visitors not only have Ansell back in the squad (doubt he’ll start, given his injury-prone nature) but now feel confident enough in Goodwin’s fitness to start him. As he’s their best attacker, that’s a big boost. Him, Yengi, and Halloran – that’s an attack that can score goals. Breaking Roar down is 70% of the battle so it’s imperative that Goodwin does play. If he does, The Reds should find a way to take the lead.
Sitting on it – well, they’re not so good at that. Adelaide United are seldom a team that I feel comfortable in trusting in defence. They’re just too open. Individually, I like most of their back four now. Cavallo still looks like a midfielder playing at left-back, which he is. Their centre-back options are good though, and they’ve got two good shot stoppers. It’s just the result of what happens with a somewhat youthful team. Still, their attacking power is very good, and more importantly, it’s superior to that of their hosts. I think they’ll enjoy this one, to an extent.
Roar have more tenacity and defensive focus but given that Aldred is still out, they’re still lacking in defence. They do still make errors in that area of the pitch from time to time. That said, I trust them defensively more than I trust most in the A-League so I’m confident that they’ll make the game tough for their opponents. That’s their trademark anyway. Then again, Roar need to try and win it so may switch from their 5-3-2 formation of the past two matches, although they’re not the kind of team that ever scores more than once per game so they’re not going to go gung-ho here.
As ever, Roar are going to try and outfight their opponents in midfield. They’ve got a lot of combative players, and their pressing game is good so they’ll force Adelaide United into mistakes, and simply try to profit from it. Ivanovic does look really dangerous, and they’ve been dangerous from set pieces, so they may get at least a goal here. Are they really going to outsmart and outscore a superior Adelaide United though? I doubt it. I can see them being the more balanced and tenacious outfit, but also the less effective outfit.
To me, being able to back the team with the superior attack with draw no bet cover at 6/5 is appealing.
Verdict: Adelaide United to win with draw no bet at 6/5.
