Lithuanian Cup?
The Lithuanian Football Federation Cup is the primary cup competition in Lithuanian football, featuring 62 professional and amateur sides.
The competition was founded in 1947, and was initially an alternative tournament for Lithuanian teams that weren’t competing in the Soviet leagues.
Since the 2011-12 season, the cup has been absolutely dominated by Zalgiris Vilnius, who have enjoyed a similar run of success in the league. The Vilnius side have lifted the trophy in the last six consecutive seasons.
Why we love the Lithuanian Cup
Lithuanian football is dominated by its top clubs, with a huge quality gap separating the top two or three sides from the rest.
Aside from the top teams, though, the competition is even and almost anyone is capable of beating anyone else. The games are usually entertaining despite the relatively low standard, though the poor finishing in the competition can be frustrating.
