I’m often sat here, wondering when people are going to start taking Luxembourgian football teams seriously, whether on the international stage or at club level. Luxembourgian football has improved massively over the past five years at every level. It was inevitable, really – a tax-free country fused with players from abroad that are seeking better lives for themselves? Subsequently, Luxembourgian teams are now harder to handle than they used to be, particularly the likes of F91 Dudelange and Differdange 03.

Fola Esch are a team that sometimes get into Europe and sometimes don’t. Last season, they were the top goal-scoring team in the whole of Luxembourg, which tells a story all by itself. As ever, Morocco’s Hadji was at the heart of things, although this time he was complemented by impressive youngster, Rodrigues. Those two ran the show for Strasser’s boys, and I expect more of the same in their upcoming campaign. I wouldn’t say that they’re particularly good defensively, which is ironic when you consider that Strasser himself was a defender, but offensively they’re a dangerous team. I like how comfortable they are on the ball, how confident they are, and how good they are in front of goal. I honestly cannot understand why the visitors are favourites here, to be frank.

Sure, I suppose people rate Moldovan football as being far superior to Luxembourgian football, and in the past, it definitely was. Nowadays, I am not so sure. My view is that Moldovan football has nose-dived over the past few years. Let’s face it – Milsami Orhei are only in the position that they’re in because of Zimbru Chisinau’s demise. To be fair to them, I think they did well to challenge Dacia Chisinau and moneybags Sheriff Tiraspol but I only see quality in their midfield, which naturally stems from Andronic, Banovic, and Sidorenco. Other than that, I find them to be a rather average team, really. They’ve got Moldova’s typical cautious approach about them, and I don’t class them as a team that’s easy to beat, but I’m finding it really hard to imagine them doing enough to win in Luxembourg tonight.

My call is for Fola Esch to win with draw no bet.

Fola Esch to win with draw no bet at 4/5.
