Where are the most expensive players now?
For this post I decided to look at the highest football transfers in the 2013-2014 season and see where the players are just two years later.
I will leave it up to you to decide if their respective clubs got their money’s worth! I thought it would make for good sports betting insights.
Gareth Bale
- Transfer fee: 91 million euros
- Salary: 7 million euros (per year)
- Tottenham => Real Madrid
Where are they now?
Gareth is still at the club, looks like Real Madrid will be getting their monies worth for him!
Edinson Cavani
- Transfer fee: 64.5 million euros
- Salary: 10 million euros (per year)
- Napoli => PSG
Where are they now?
Edison is still at Paris Saint-Germain F.C., good for him and the club!
Radamel Falcao
- Transfer fee: 60 million euros
- Salary: 14 million euros (per year)
- Atletico Madrid => AS Monaco
Where are they now?
Radamel is currently on loan playing as a forward for Chelsea, I wonder if Monaco are happy with how that turned out? Last year he was on loan to Manchester United but these days he seems to be spending a little too much time on the bench.
Neymar
- Transfer fee: 57 million euros
- Salary: 7 million euros (per year)
- Santos FC => FC Barcelona
Where are they now?
Neymar is still very much at Barcelona.
Mesut Özil
- Transfer fee: 50 million euros
- Salary: 7 million euros (per year). Earning £140.000 per week.
- Real Madrid => Arsenal
Where are they now?
Mesut is still playing midfield at Arsenal.
James Rodriguez
- Transfer fee: 45 million euros
- Salary: Unknown (up 5 to 8 million euros per year)
- FC Porto => AS Monaco
Where are they now?
James went from Monaco to Real Madrid, where he racked up 38 appearances and scored 16 goals. Almost doubling what he managed to score for Monaco.
Fernandinho
- Transfer fee: 40 million euros
- Salary: 6 million euros (per year)
- Shakhtar Donetsk => Manchester City
Where are they now?
Fernandinho is still at City, where he has been getting fairly regular runs out. He seemed to score more freely at Shakhtar though.
Gonzalo Higuaín
- Transfer fee: 40 million euros
- Salary: 6 million euros (per year)
- Real Madrid => Napoli
Where are they now?
Gonzalo has been at Napoli since the move from Madrid, do you think he was worth the money?
Illarramendi
- Transfer fee: 39 million euros
- Salary: 3 million euros (per year)
- Real Sociedad => Real Madrid
Where are they now?
Even though he had 59 appearances for Madrid between 2013 and 2015 he is now back at Real Sociedad on a six-year deal.
Mario Götze
- Transfer fee: 37 million euros
- Salary: 7 million euros (per year)
- Borussia Dortmund => Bayern Munich
Where are they now?
Mario is still playing midfield for Bayern Munich.
Conclusions
That isn’t bad going, out of the 10 listed here 7 have stayed with their club.
Who do you think out of these were good investments? Are you surprised so many have stayed put? I know a lot of them are are long term contracts but that doesn’t stop most clubs and players when they want to move.
