With Neuer Out, Will Bayern’s Champions League Hopes Suffer?

German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer recently broke his leg on a Skiing trip, which he went on after Germany crashed out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. It means he will be out for the rest of the season, but what does it mean for Bayern Munich’s hopes of winning the UEFA Champions League?

Can Bayern still win the UEFA Champions League without Neuer?

Now that Manuel Neuer is out for the season, the question being asked here is, can Bayern Munich still win the UEFA Champions League, which gets underway again in February 2023? Neuer isn’t expected to be back playing until at least August 2023.

To better understand whether they can win the Champions League, the best thing to do would be to compare the average odds at today’s most trusted online sports betting sites to find out what they are currently offering for Bayern to win the Champions League outright.

A closer look at the odds

Despite the fact that their star goalkeeper is not going to play any of Bayern’s upcoming Champions League games, if you check the latest betting sites and the current Champions League odds, you will see that most sites still have Bundesliga side Bayern Munich as the second odds-on favourites to win the tournament outright behind odds-on favourites, Premier League side Manchester City

Bayern are currently priced at 7/1 in UK fractional odds, which equates to 8.00 in European decimal odds. In American/moneyline odds, it’s 700, which means that Bayern have a 12.50% implied probability of winning the Champions League. In comparison, odds-on favourites Manchester City are priced at 7/4, which is 2.75 (decimal odds) and 175 (American/moneyline odds).

Manchester City have a much higher implied probability of winning the Champions League at 36.40%. In other words, it’s not looking too bad for Bayern Munich, but without Neuer in goal, many people will now avoid betting on them to win and will instead put their money on Manchester City.

Who can Bayern get to replace Neuer?

Bayern Munich’s most likely choice of goalkeeper will be Alexander Nübel. However, he’s currently on loan at French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, who are currently in sixth place in the league behind Lorient, Marseille, Rennes, Lens, and Paris Saint-Germain. If they can’t bring back Nübel, they may have to rely on 34-year-old German Sven Ulreich. They also have 19-year-old goalkeeper Johannes Schenk.

Upcoming Champions League fixtures

When the UEFA Champions League round of 16 gets underway on February 14th, Bayern Munich will travel to France to play PSG at the Le Parc des Princes for an 8 PM GMT kick-off. The second leg will be played at home on March 8th.

What to remember when betting for real money mode

One of the most important things to remember is that no matter how certain the odds may seem, no bet is ever guaranteed. If you are going to place real money bets, never spend more than you can afford, and try to gamble sensibly. All trusted casinos will offer players the option to set deposit limits at online casinos, which is a great bankroll management tool.

Only ever sign up to a fully licensed sports betting site that’s owned and operated by a reputable company. Never sign up to unlicensed sports betting websites, and never chase your losses. Try not to gamble out of necessity, and don’t gamble as a way to make money.

To place a wager at an online sports betting website, you generally need to be at least 18 years old, and before you can place a wager, you need to start by registering an account, which means filling out the simple online application form.
