Interesting night! Standard Liege finally got what they deserved by overcoming Everton 4-3 on aggregate. The Belgian outfit must have nearly died after annihlating Liverpool in the Champions League Qualifiers only to go out of it by pure fluke and then to be drawn against yet another Liverpool-based team. I do feel a little sorry for Everton, however, as they did extremely well last season to get here – their form this season, however, befits the result they received tonight.

 

Tonight also reinforced my dislike of backing German teams, my main examples being Stuttgart fighting back from 2 goals down at home to Bulgarian side Cherno More in Germany to draw 2-2 and also Schalke 04 coming from behind to draw 1-1 at home to Cypriot surprise package APOEL Nicosia.
