Cittadella vs Frosinone

Free

Today’s featured game is the Serie B game between Cittadella and Frosinone. Hosts Cittadella have been strong at home this season and are looking to strengthen a promotion play-off place by winning this game today against relegation-threatened Frosinone, who were extremely promising in the earlier stages of Serie B this year but have gone on to possess one of the worst away records in the division.

Cittadella have only lost once in their last thirteen games, winning four out of their last five games. They’ve won six out of their last seven home games with their most recent home game resulting in a 6-0 win against relegation-threatened Mantova. They’ve now won eleven out of nineteen home games this season whilst losing just once along the way so they’re very much a strong home side. No side has conceded fewer goals than Cittadella have at home with just eleven goals conceded in nineteen home games, which is a superb record. They average scoring over 1.5 goals per home game so they’re generally quite potent too. I rate what they’ve done this season as nothing short of heroic as I can name seven sides in this division that are better than they are and yet they’re still battling for a promotion place so they’re certainly got good spirit at the moment. With such momentum and morale behind them, as well as playing on their own turf, you have to fancy them to win this one today.

Visitors Frosinone started the season so brightly – who would have forseen them battling relegation at the end of the season? Not me! Then again, I didn’t forsee them playing that well at all so perhaps I’m not the most reliable person regarding Frosinone! However, one thing that is certain regarding Frosinone is that they are very much locked in a relegation battle and there’s no easy way out. Only bottom club Salernitana have lost more away games than they have this season with Frosinone having lost thirteen out of nineteen on the road. They’ve lost four out of their last five games so their momentum and morale is low and they’ve lost their last six away games consecutively, conceding sixteen goals along the way – an average of nearly three goals per game. Frosinone usually steal a token goal on the road but frankly if you’re conceding that many goals then you’ll lose most of your  games, as they do, and should do tonight.

Ultimately, Cittadella really should be shorter than 4/6 to win this game which is why I consider it good value as I don’t normally like odds of 4/6 for value bets. However, Cittadella should win this one at good odds, all things considered, thus making it my bet of the day!

Verdict: Cittadella to win at 4/6.

Saturday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

La Equidad Bogota vs Atletico Nacional de Medellin – home win at evens.

La Equidad have been strong at home in this campaign already, winning six out of eight home games and having only lost once. They average scoring nearly two goals per home game and whilst they’re not one of the better sides in the Primera A per se, their momentum is certainly giving us the impression that they are. They’re unbeaten in seven Primera A games consecutively and have thus gathered strong momentum from such a run, particularly as that run included impressive wins at in-form Real Cartagena, at home to Independiente Medellin, and also at home to Depores Tolima, none of which are easy games by any stretch of the imagination. They’ve won their last four home games consecutively in Primera A and have scored at least twice in each game so they’re certainly looking strong at home and have the momentum to increase their strength tonight.

Visitors Atletico Nacional are the bigger side and they’ve had a presentable campaign themselves but they simply don’t travel well. Atletico have lost four out of their last five away games because they concede goals too easily, conceding at least twice in each of their defeats. Indeed, their only break from defeats on the road in their last five games came when they won at newly-promoted Cortulua – hardly the most convincing of statistics for the visitors. They’ve now lost five out of eight away games in the Primera A this season and should lose yet again tonight against a very much in-form La Equidad Bogota.

Although these two sides are capable of cancelling each other out, with the hosts in such good form and the visitors travelling so poorly, the odds of evens on the home win look rather generous tonight.

Verdict: La Equidad Bogota to win at evens.

Bohemians Prague vs Viktoria Plzen – away win at 8/11.

These odds are way too long!! Bohemians Prague are already relegated thanks to their decision to not field a starting eleven against Bohemians 1905 and thus being docked points. Since then, Bohemians have lost three games and drawn once, scoring in just one of those games. They’re conceding heavily and not playing well for obvious reasons with their only break from their losing run being against an impotent Brno side, which gave them a 0-0 draw. Bohemians have nothing to play for and their attitude on the field reflects that in each game so I don’t expect miracles to happen today. Viktoria Plzen are punching above their weight this season but they’re a good deal better than Bohemians are and they have the additional motivation of possibly competing for a UEFA Europa League place next season. They’re in fifth place, which in the Gambrinus Liga means that they don’t qualify for anything but they face Jablonec in the Ondrasovka Cup Final in a couple of weeks and Jablonec are already assured of European football next season in either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League so Viktoria Plzen could very well find themselves fighting for the UEFA Europa League place today by claiming fifth place. They need four points from their remaining two games to guarantee fifth place and they’ve got an easy game to start it off, which is convenient as they had suffered from burn-out of late but broke it by winning last match. Ultimately, a capable Viktoria Plzen against a demoralised and weak Bohemians side should be at least 1/3 to me so this could be a real bargain today.

Verdict: Viktoria Plzen to win at 8/11.

Ceske Budejovice vs Brno – home win at 11/10.

This will be a tight game between two well-matched sides but the home side have the momentum to make it count. It’s a meaningless game so keep punts low but Ceske have turned it on lately with no defeats in four games, winning their last two consecutively to avoid the drop, which they’ve now successfully done. They’re a strong home side but their main failing is that they don’t score enough goals. However, that hasn’t been a problem lately with three goals scored in two games so I’m risking backing them today whilst they’re above evens. Brno are capable of playing on their day but they’ve frankly looked disinterested of late as a boring 0-0 draw against the most demoralised side in the division proved in their last game so I doubt they’ll be scoring today. I’m thinking something along the lines of 1-0 here with momentum doing the damage but either way it has to be worth a cheeky punt on the home win at 11/10.

Verdict: Ceske Budejovice to win at 11/10.

Maag Tammeka Tartu vs Trans Narva – away win at 1/2.

The odds are too short on the away win here. Trans Narva are one of the top four sides in Estonia and the gap between the top four and the rest is massive, hence Narva’s five wins in six away games this season, which is more than any other side currently. They average scoring nearly two goals per away game and have won their last four visits here consecutively so winning this one really should be nothing out of the ordinary for them. Tammeka are one of the better sides in the remaining sides outside of the top four but should really be outclassed today. I prefer backing Narva on their own difficult pitch but they’re a good side on the road too as they’ve already proven this season and should really be at least 1/3 to win this game so there is value here.

Verdict: Trans Narva to win at 1/2.

HJK II vs MP Mikkeli – home win at 4/6.

Another set of odds that are too long – should be 1/2 here. HJK’s second string are a decent side in this division but their most renowned feature is their ability to score goals. They tend to start the Ykkonen well each year but fade away a little towards the middle and they’re holding true to that already this season with no defeats in three games, beating TPV Tampere comfortably, holding promotion hopefuls Kemi Kings to a draw, and claiming an impressive draw at relegated RoPS Rovaniemi, which is renowned for being a tough away game in the far north of Finland. HJK II have a lot going for them and momentum is good so they should turn up today. MP Mikkeli have been poor since promotion from the Kakkonen with two defeats in two games and are still yet to score a goal. I’ll admit that they’ve had two tough games but the manner of their defeats has been very comprehensive and they’re going to struggle if they continue to fail to find the net. HJK II have the momentum to win this one today and should be shorter in my opinion so there should be value on the home win.

Verdict: HJK II to win at 4/6.

Getafe vs Malaga – home win at 4/5.

Both sides really need the points in this one which should make it a good game! Getafe are competing for a Europa League place whereas Malaga are still seeking that ever-elusive win to push away from the drop zone. Malaga aren’t losing games – they’ve simply drawn five consecutively – but with two games remaining and just one point between themselves and the drop zone, they need to start winning games which means they can’t sit back as normal. They’ve already lost eight on the road this season so attacking Getafe could prove disastrous for them, particularly with Getafe so strong at home with ten wins in eighteen games this season. Getafe average scoring nearly two goals per game at home and have beaten both Sevilla and Villarreal at home in their last three home games so they’re more than capable of winning today. Malaga have done well to keep sides out on the road of late but Getafe are looking strong and potent at home and really should have enough to win this one, especially as Malaga can’t sit back and simply hope for another draw today.

Verdict: Getafe to win at 4/5.

Servette vs Wil – home win at evens.

Pure momentum bet! Servette have been astounding since returning from the winter break and keep winning even though it’s now redundant! They’ve won seven out of their last eight games and have now won seven consecutive home games, which makes them a threat whether they have motivation or not. They’ve beaten some bloody good sides during that run and if they continue this form next season then I’ve no doubt whatsoever that they’ll be back where they belong in the Super League. Wil have played well themselves of late although mostly by stopping other sides from playing football. They’re unbeaten in their last five away games but they’ve played some very poor sides of late so it’s not as impressive as it looks, in my humble opinion. Wil are a capable side but they’re coming up against such a strong Servette side with a tremendous burst of momentum behind them that I cannot look beyond a home win here. Servette should be shorter than evens, if only at 5/6, but whilst they’re at evens I’ll take them to win this one although do approach with caution a this is a redundant game!

Verdict: Servette to win at evens.
