Today’s free tip is in the Italian Serie A encounter between Internazionale and Torino at the Giuseppe Meazza. A defeat at Sassuolo last weekend wasn’t the ideal start for Internazionale but then again, it wasn’t earth-shattering either. Sassuolo can be a very prickly pear sometimes.

At home though, Internazionale need to win games of this nature. I still have question marks over the attitude of some of their players some of them don’t give their best on too many occasions. However, I can’t think of a better combination than Spalletti and Internazionale right now. He’s not the best manager in the world but he knows Serie A inside out and he tends to manage big personalities pretty well so to be in charge of one of the most impatient clubs in Serie A makes sense. Having said that, I’m sure that they’ll sack him soon – that’s the club’s “style”, if you will.

Pre-season, Internazionale have made smart acquisitions. Gagliardini’s loan was made into a permanent move. Powerful midfield playmaker Nainggolan joined from AS Roma. Filthy Croatian full-back Vrsaljko joined on loan. Attacking bundle of energy Balde joined on loan. Argentinian hot prospect Martinez joined for big bucks – hopes are high for him. Basically, they’ve not taken any unnecessary risks, Internazionale – they’ve either signed proven Serie A players or high potential players, and that should only make their squad stronger.

In terms of quality, Internazionale are seldom short of options. Whether they perform well or not is another matter. That’s been their bugbear for years now – a collective effort. Still, they’re improving on that front with time, and although they’re not a very entertaining team, they’re starting to find it easier to win games than they used to. That should not be a surprise, either, not with the likes of Icardi, Perisic, and Candreva on their books. I’m taking a bit of a chance on backing them to clear the -1 Asian Handicap today because they’re not an especially attack-minded team but I believe that Torino will give them enough opportunities to make it happen.

I find it very easy to oppose Torino under Mazzarri. That in itself is odd, because Torino are a good side, and Mazzarri is a good manager. I just don’t think that the two mesh though. It’s like he wants his teams to play on a bit of a leash, and that really doesn’t suit Torino nowadays. It’s ironic, really – they sacked Mihailjovic because he was too attack-minded and now they’ve got Mazzarri, whom I personally don’t think is attack-minded enough. I think the search for a new manager will resume this season but let’s wait and see.

When it comes to quality, Torino are really good. When I see Zaza/Belotti flanked by the likes of Ljajic, Niang, and Falque, I see goals. They’re supported by Baselli through the middle too, which makes them even more dangerous. This is a team that should be playing attacking football but they just don’t do that often enough.

Defensively, Torino are…alright. I can’t say more than that. To me, they’ve got the brawn but not the brains back there to be a Serie A defence. A concentrated effort from good players should be far too much for Torino to handle. Ultimately, that’s what happened when they hosted AS Roma last weekend. I expect more of the same today too. I just don’t think Mazzarri is the right man to lead this team, like I said above. This team does not look like “his” team, if that even makes any semblance of sense.

I’m going to take a chance on superior Internazionale clearing the -1 Asian Handicap today.

Verdict: Internazionale to beat the -1 Asian Handicap at 19/20.
