Today’s free tip is in the English Premier League encounter between Manchester United and Newcastle United. I daresay everybody will be on this one, and who can blame them? It’s going to take a ridiculously unexpected game for this match to be high-scoring – or entertaining.
Newcastle United’s lack of quality means that they’re entering each game, shitting themselves. To be fair, they’re working hard, and Benitez’s tactics helps them to operate at a higher standard, but they’re still horribly ineffectual. Newcastle United deserving something from a game has happened a lot this season. Newcastle United getting something from a game this season has not happened much at all. I’m not saying they won’t get something today because, let’s face it – Manchester United have been very poor this season. However, it will require Manchester United to be seriously poor for Newcastle United to get something from the game so I don’t trust it to happen.
Still, Manchester United look poor – there’s no getting around that, and that’s coming from an ardent fan in yours truly. There’s no speed to the team’s play, no urgency, and no quality. The poor defence is getting exposed more and more by the most basic of approaches, and their attack is failing due to a lack of numbers being committed forward by Mourinho, which has naturally affected the confidence of those on the pitch. It’s a catch twenty-two situation now and I honestly can’t see a way out. I’ve never felt quite so despondent about my team before because of this mess. I don’t have a problem with my team losing games but when they literally do not deserve to win any of their games, I find it really hard to get behind them.
This rabbit hole that Manchester United are in will not go away overnight. The same has to be said for Newcastle United too. I think that the visitors have more conviction and confidence at the moment, which may see them spring a “surprise” today. However, Manchester United have far better individuals and it’ll only take one or two showing up for them to win it so I won’t go near the 1×2 market. Backing under 2.5 goals seems very logical to me, though – both teams look like they’ve never seen the ball before when they get into the final third.
Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 4/5.
