5 memorable moments from the 2022-2023 Premiership

The latest season of the Premier League was chock full of unforgettable moments that will go down in premiership history. Whether it was drama or unprecedented and dominating victories, the 2022-2023 Premiership was a remarkable season that brought massive audiences some of the most unexpected twists and turns in the League’s history.

Though it would be nearly impossible to catalogue each and every great moment of this past season, here are our top five unforgettable moments of the latest 2022-23 Premier League.

1. Liverpool reigns supreme over Manchester 7-0

Arguably the biggest moment of the season, Manchester United experienced their most devastating loss in decades after losing to Liverpool seven to nothing on 5 March 2023. Though this isn’t the first time Manchester experienced a 7-0 loss, it’s one of very few, and it’s one that fans all over the world will want to forget.

This was an unexpected turnout as Manchester United had recently won the League Cup, making them an easy pick for bettors and devotees. However, fate had other plans as this was undeniably one of the biggest upsets the Premiership has experienced in some time.

Roberto Firmino scored the seventh and final goal for Liverpool FC, which only added to the intensity of the already historic match.

2. Matches postponed due to royal and current events

The passing of Queen Elizabeth II was a deeply unfortunate event for all the United Kingdom, and the Premier League was no exception. After the unfortunate news on 9 September 2022, the Premiership postponed all its matches that same weekend to respect the passing of the Queen and allow all its members and athletes to mourn.

Additionally, to pay further respect and tribute to the late Queen, many matches would begin with a minute of silence. While these actions had no impact on the matches themselves, they added a unique feel to the season that will be remembered for years to come.

Similarly, the coronation of King Charles III on 6 May 2023 also had the Premier League change up some of their habits. The service was often shown before matches, with the national anthem being played as well.

3. Antonio Conte’s emotional rant and exit

For many people, one of the biggest moments of the Premier League happened post-match at Southampton when illustrious manager Antonio Conte went on an unsolicited yet bombastic rant about the lack of player skill, failing to meet expectations and many other explosive accusations. Days after this surprising incident, manager Conte left the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, making his departure one of the biggest surprise twists of the 2022-23 season.

Though some would argue that the writing has been on the wall for some time now, Conte severing himself from his football club still has major ramifications for the Premiership’s future. Whether the majority of other managers will agree or disagree with his opinions has yet to be seen, but it will be interesting to see how far this fallout affects the League moving on.

4. Miguel Almiron’s 7-goal streak against

Almiron wasn’t considered much of an all-star player at the beginning of the season. This is what made it even more surprising when he came out of nowhere with a 7-goal run in as many games playing for Newcastle. Miguel Almiron’s performance was so earth-shattering that people began comparing him to greats such as Neymar.

As his explosive success was so unexpected, he turned the Premier League on its head for passionate fans, fellow players and sports bettors in need of better tips. Though his fiery performance was shocking, what was much less shocking was Almiron qualifying for the Champions League and renewing his contract with Newcastle. The 2022-23 season could have been the time when a new future star was born.

5. The month of arrival and exits

One of the wildest periods of this last Premiership season was January of 2023, which included a flurry of mega stars switching clubs for massive payouts. It was such a chaotic time that it left many fans feeling dazed and confused at all the exchanges that were going on.

The biggest deal by far was Enzo Fernandez going from Benfica to Chelsea for £107m, making this trade one of the biggest pieces of Premier League news all season. Other huge trade deals included Benoit Badiashile, Anthony Gordon, Mykhailo Mudryk and Cody Gakpo.
