Today’s free tip is in the Mexican Liga MX encounter between Tijuana and Tigres UANL.
Most bettors appear to be going the other way here, which is puzzling. I’ll admit that there needs to be an early goal here but these are generally not what I’d call defensive teams.
Sure, Tigres UANL like to sit on the ball in midfield, hence the presence of Carioca, Aquino, Pizarro, and now Fernandez too. However, they’re all far more attack-minded than defence-minded, and this club hasn’t spent the money it has on Vargas, Gignac, and Lopez up front to bore them to sleep. I would compromise here and simply say that Tigres UANL are a smart team, as they proved against Pachuca last time out. They know when to get at teams, and when not to. Their win over Necaxa in the preceding round was a massacre, and it should have been more than three by the end of play. They’re too good at scoring goals, Tigres UANL, whether they’re playing a more cavalier approach to attacking or not.
I honestly don’t envision Tijuana being able to keep them out here. They’ve not been able to in their last fourteen attempts against their bogey team, and I doubt tonight’s game will be any different. Tigres UANL have an excellent model to work from, and are steadily improving, year upon year. I mean, to make Giganc into a prolific striker is one hell of an achievement, really – that fella needed six chances to score once when he played in Europe! They look capable of breaking teams down at will, Tigres UANL, and as much as I like Tijuana, the away team will get at least one goal here, and probably more besides because they’re too good, to put it bluntly.
Tijuana had the luxury of facing an injury-ravaged America last time out, and yet still got pummelled 4-0 despite having plundered most of Queretaro’s squad pre-season in an attempt to make them more competitive. Tijuana remain the same speedy counter-attacking outfit that has little else to offer besides that. Nonetheless, that style does grant them a certain number of chances per game, and the same should apply tonight, whether they get something from the encounter or not. I don’t honestly feel that Tijuana are smart enough to get something from this game, never mind good enough, so it should all be in the hands of Tigres UANL really.
Despite the head-to-head record favouring Tigres UANL though, the 1×2 market doesn’t appeal to me here. It’s long way to go to Tijuana, and then playing on a plastic pitch at the end of it is not pleasant. Tigres UANL are good enough to manage it, but the fact that they’re expected to play on the front foot means that Tijuana are going to be able to counter-attack them here. To what end, I don’t know, but I’d like to think that Lopez, Nahuelpan, Castillo would take at least one chance between them here, especially playing for attack-minded manager Guede, who is never afraid to commit men forward. I may refer to Tijuana as a speedy counter-attacking team because that’s what they are, but when they’re not doing that, they’re usually to be found throwing men forward anyway so this is very much an over 2.5 goals game team.
Tigres UANL are more balanced than their opponents, it’s true, but there should be scope for this one to go over 2.5 goals, even if Tigres UANL have to do it all by themselves.
Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 19/20.
