Today’s free tip is in the Norwegian Eliteserien encounter between Sandefjord and Tromso.
There isn’t a team in Norway that I like more than Tromso, but 4/5 on them being beaten (with draw no bet) away from home against an incredibly impressive Sandefjord is pure madness.
Tromso bring chaos to their games. They’re good at it too. Kitolano has settled in really well at Eliteserien level, and Jenssen is naturally a class act. That, fused with the long-awaited return of star striker Espejord, and the emergence of Nigerian attacker Ebiye, makes them hard to handle. I shouldn’t overlook Mikkelsen either; the kid has had a great campaign thus far. Imagine how dangerous they’d be if the rumours were true, and they did manage to re-sign FCSB reject Ondrasek!
The story is always the same with the northerners though. They bring chaos, create lots of chances, and usually end up conceding more than they score. There are exceptions, especially against teams that aren’t anticipating having to run a lot, but most Norwegian teams know what they’re about by now, and know how to deal with it. They’re a bit like Stromsgodset, Tromso – tremendously entertaining, but not very efficient. That kind of approach should not wash against the possession-hungry Sandefjord.
Few Eliteserien teams have impressed me more than Sandefjord this season, all things considered. They’ve had tremendous mental strength, great organisation, and have dictated the tempo far better than a squad of their calibre should be able to. This has been going on for a couple of months now. Their ability to keep the ball, use it, and convert their chances is seriously underrated. This is not a flash in the pan; Sandefjord really do look excellent right now. They’re obviously not near the level of the top teams in Norway on paper, but they sure are playing like it.
Part of it can be attributed to getting Singh playing regularly again, Ze Eduardo’s fitness, and Hansen’s goal-scoring acumen, but it’s still very much a team game. That’s what kills teams; Sandefjord’s capacity to play as one, almost like a shoal of fish evading a predator. They’re a very flexible team, good at just about everything, and they respect all of their opponents to the appropriate degree required. This is a team to take seriously. They’re not unbeatable, but they sure do make it hard for opponents, enough so that luck plays a big role in it happening now.
I don’t know where this Sandefjord has come from, but I love it. They’ve been the success story of the Eliteserien this season, and I can’t see them being fazed by wild Tromso. My tip is the home win with draw no bet cover.
Verdict: Sandefjord to win with draw no bet at 4/5.
