Today’s featured game is the Cypriot Division 1 encouter between newly-promoted Aris Limassol and moneybags AEK Larnaca.

Aris continue to impress me each week with convincing displays and if they could actually convert the chances that they create on a more regular basis then I’m confident that their misleading league positioning would be rectified almost immediately. Nonetheless, they’ve knuckled down a lot of late and have gone unbeaten in three consecutve games now, even claiming a 2-2 draw at Anorthosis Famagusta with ten men along the way. Let’s face it – no side has had an easy game against Aris this season, irrespective of the results, and I see no reason for that to change today. Mitosevic still has timeless Gonzalez and veteran Sosin up front to cause problems and although Aris are perhaps lacking in ability just a little bit, they do tend to make up for it with their tenacity. For me, they’re good enough to give any side in Cyprus a good game right now so why not AEK today?

AEK were very impressive last season but not so much this season, which has partially been due to the absence of influential defender Hofland, who incidentally returns from injury for this game. However, AEK’s overall displays have been lacklustre, conceding easy goals as they continue to focus on the UEFA Europa League. AEK were in Germany just a few days ago claiming a heroic 0-0 draw with Schalke 04 after a good display but they must surely be tired from such a tenacious game. Additionally, star striker Gonzalo Garcia is missing his strike partner today with Pintado absent so the visitors won’t be at 100% today. Don’t get me wrong here – AEK have a good squad and are not easy to play against. However, it’s become more than apparent that they are prioritising their European campaign and they’re facing an underrated host so I think that they’ll struggle today.

I fully expect AEK to improve their form in the near future now that Hofland is back but for now I think they’ll continue to struggle as he looks to get some match fitness under his belt. AEK won’t be easy to beat here but Aris are playing with real hunger right now and on their own turf with momentum behind them, the home win with draw no bet cover for Aris appeals to me today.

Verdict: Aris Limassol to win with draw no bet at 4/5.
