Avai vs Goias
FreeToday’s featured game from a day of scant pickings is the Copa Sudamericana game in Brazil between Avai and Goias. Both sides are battling against relegation in Brazil’s Serie A so it’s hard to envision either side caring about this competition tonight, which I have to admit is my fundamental reasoning behind the bet.
Basically, neither side cares about this game. We should either see a low-scoring and low-energy affair from two first-teams that want to avoid injury to focus on their respective relegation fights or we’ll see the second-string of both sides playing, neither of which are very good. Three out of Avai’s last five home games have gone under 2.5 goals and although Goias do score goals on the road, I don’t see them committing themselves much here. These two sides played out a 2-2 draw at Goias a few weeks ago in Serie A but I’d be surprised to see the same outcome tonight with neither side caring about the game. This tournament is simply nowhere near as important as Serie A is to both clubs financially so they’ll be focusing on that competition instead.
I therefore feel that under 2.5 goals is worth a shot here as neither side possesses a strong second-string so I don’t envision many goals being scored. It’s a risky call to make between two Brazilian sides but it’s the only one that interests me today!
Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 10/11.
