I couldn’t help but smile as Arsenal drew at Sunderland. Yes – I really am that petty. I was still smiling as Man Utd overcame Blackburn Rovers with considerable ease, too. However, that smile rapidly disappeared when I saw the ridiculous results of Steau Bucharest drawing at home to lowly Otopeni, Lazio drawing at home to Lecce and Domzale losing at home to Celje. Football has many ups and downs, of course, but sometimes you get what you give I suppose!

 

Game of the day has to go to the match in Slovenia between Kosice and Tatran. Despite this match having all the hallmarks of a standard home win, Kosice appeared to have not read the script as they rapidly slumped to 2 goals behind. However, in a dogged encounter, Kosice managed to fight back, give it away again, take the lead until the last minute and then successfully give it away again! The result was 5-5 – a proper old-fashioned game. Who needs defenders anyway? This is a game the Brazilians would be proud to show.

 

 

Now, out of sunday’s games there’s one that stands out for me – Inter Turku vs Honka in Finland. Now this game probably means fuck all to most of you, including most Finns, and it should mean fuck all to me, but because I’m sad and follow most types of football, I know this is a massive game. Take the Finnish League back about 8-10 games and Honka were 4th or 5th in the league but were really starting to gather momentum to attempt to catch the league leaders Inter Turku. I actually emailed the bookies to see if they’d give me odds on Honka winning the league but they responded in the negative. Now we come to this match with both sides level on points and both flying in the league with only a couple of games to spare. Yes, I’m odd, I do like the Finnish League, but this is still a great title run-in! Now I’ve said all this though, Honka will probably go and finish 2nd, thus proving my whole paragraph utterly pointless. Oh well!
