Today’s free tip is in the game between Bolivia and Mexico, which is being played in USA. It’s a friendly so experimentation is to be expected but there’s a significant quality gap in favour of the Mexicans which I’m hoping to capitalise on here.

Given that Bolivian football is on the decline, their only real advantage these days is the ridiculous altitude that the majority of their home games are played at. This game will be on neutral soil in USA so their only advantage is gone, basically. In addition to that, the only good players that Bolivia can still call up are not present due to their club commitments. Players such as Marcelo Moreno, Edivaldo Hermoza, Juan Carlos Arce, Luis Gutierrez, and even promising youngster Diego Bejarano are all out of the squad. Instead, Bolivia’s current squad are made up entirely (barring Carlos Saucedo) of players plying their trade in Bolivia and that’s not exactly the epitome of South American football right now. There’s a real absence of experience in this squad, hence them being drilled 4-0 by Ecuador a few days ago and I expect more of the same tonight, bluntly put.

Mexico fought their way to a 0-0 draw with Chile a few days ago in an interesting but low-scoring affair. They were spot on tactically but didn’t manage to take their chances. However, there’s more than enough attacking talent in this Mexican squad to steer them to victory tonight. I’m really pleased that they left Javier Hernandez out of the squad, incidentally – it shows that they’re not afraid to drop their best players when they’re not playing well. The players recognise that and I believe that’s why they work so hard for Herrera; it’s because they respect him. He’s getting the best out of his players and he’s got a lot of talent at his disposal. Given the tactical intelligence that Herrera has given Mexico and the flair and finesse that is now available to him, I’ve no doubts whatsoever over the Mexican win tonight.

Can they handicap Bolivia, though? That’s the million dollar question. Personally, I believe that they can. Bolivia aren’t really in a position to stop them and Mexico have more than enough in their locker to make it  happen, even with a few regulars out. Therefore, I believe that there’s value in taking Mexico to clear the -1 Asian Handicap at 9/10.

Verdict: Mexico to beat the -1 Asian Handicap at 9/10.
