Carlisle United vs Yeovil Town

Today’s featured game is the League One game between Carlisle United and Yeovil Town. Neither side are having great seasons but both should really have done enough by now to ensure that relegation is a faint threat so there’s little pressure on this game.
Carlisle United are a capable League One side and to show it although rather sporadically. They’re fairly reliable at home with eight wins in eighteen games and tend to play good football given chance. They average scoring over 1.5 goals per home game and have scored eleven times in their last five home games. Carlisle United veer between the sublime and the ridiculous alarmingly well with crushing defeats inflicted here against Milton Keynes Dons and Colchester United but have lost here to the likes of Millwall, who rarely win on the road. Nonetheless, Carlisle have been consistent at home with their whole-hearted efforts. They’ve won five out of their last nine home games, losing just twice along the way. The only two sids to win here have been Huddersfield Town and Millwall and despite my criticism of Millwall on the road, they remain one of the better sides in the division along with Huddersfield Town so it does take something large to take a result from Carlisle, generally. Carlisle will have taken good confidence from their win at home to Colchester United a few days ago and I expect them to carry that into this game and use it well.
Visitors Yeovil Town are a difficult side to play against – that’s just their style. They’re particularly difficult to take on when they’re at home but tend to struggle away as you’d expect from a physical side with little talent. I admire Yeovil’s work ethic but the fact is that they’re not a good side, unlike Carlisle United. Yeovil have lost two out of their last three away games, taking their tally to ten defeats in eighteen away games. They simply don’t score enough goals away from home – not even a goal a game – so conceding approximately 1.5 goals per away game tends to be enough to see Yeovil lose more than they win. Yeovil have scored once in their last three away games but have conceded five times so they’re looking a little dubious ahead of their lengthy trip to Carlisle.
Both sides play well sporadically so do take care when betting on this game. However, Carlisle are the true “good side” between these two and are strong at home whereas Yeovil are consistently weak and goal-shy on the road so there should be value in the home win at evens.
Verdict: Carlisle United to win at evens.
