Champions League

Somewhat akin to yesterday’s Champions League predictions, I think there’s only one game for the neutral to watch tonight and that’s Barcelona vs Bayern Munich – not because I necessarily think it’ll be a good game, but I simply think that Barcelona will massacre their opponents and Barcelona in full flight is always worth watching!

Liverpool vs Chelsea – Toss a coin, see which way it lands and whichever side it lands on, back that side. Heads is Liverpool because of their recent ego and tales is Chelsea because they’ve got their heads up their own backsides if they think they’re going to win anything this season! No, but seriously, there’s not a lot a tipster like myself can advise you on in this game. These games are always tighter than a virgin’s honeypot and you’d probably be safe calling an Under 2.5 goals bet on this game. There’s not an awful lot between these two sides. Personally, I think Chelsea have better individuals but aren’t really functioning as the machine they were under Mourinho, although the return of Michael Essien has helped them greatly. Liverpool are the in-form side at the moment but as we’ve seen throughout this season – they’re consistently inconsistent. My call for this game is 1-0 to the hosts but honestly, I won’t be touching this game with a barge pole – anything can happen.

Barcelona vs Bayern Munich – I think most people are expecting this encounter to be a lot tighter than I expect it to be. Bayern Munich did very well to score masses of goals against Sporting Clube de Lisboa, that’s true. That said though, the Portuguese side are arguably the worst they have been in recent years and Bayern Munich do have a fantastic player in Frank Ribery. However, I must stress that they only have one of these type of players, which Barcelona have an abundance of. Bayern Munich were brought back down to earth with a big bang at weekend as Germany’s most in-form side VFL Wolfsburg laid waste to the German giants, winning 5-1. Edin Dzeko certainly seems to be inspiring this German side towards the title, which will no doubt be playing on Bayern Munich’s mind as they enter this game. Barcelona, by contrast, claimed a valuable 3 points with an efficient display at Real Valladolid, winning 1-0. I read somewhere the other day that Barcelona’s goalscoring record is something like 82 goals in 28 games. That figure is frightening, and for a leaky defence like Bayern Munich’s, I’m predicting a very heavy home win here. My head says it’ll be 3-1. A varying scoreline wouldn’t surprise me but what would surprise me is Barcelona not winning here.
