Sweden is notorious for the little difference between the better clubs, thus the difficulty in predicting the eventual winners of the Allsvenskan. However, today sees last year’s runners-up Elfsborg Boras hosting my personal favourites to lift the Allsvenskan trophy this season in IFK Goteborg. This match has the potential to be a great encounter, one that’s certainly worth watching regardless of the outcome. However, regarding the outcome – both sides have naturally made good, solid starts to the season. IFK Goteborg currently top the league with their hosts today being 3rd in the league but on the same points, along with Helsingborgs and AIK Solna. However, Elfsborg Boras are currently the only side in the Allsvenskan yet to taste defeat. There’s a real clash of styles here tonight also, with Elfsborg Boras having been labelled “boring” in the past by some Swedish media due to their lack of goalscoring. IFK Goteborg are a side that loves to get forward and score goals. Needless to say this should be a rather feisty encounter also, although I don’t expect many cards in the game as the season is still young and the teams are not feeling the importance of the game yet. Interestingly, the head-to-heads between these two sides show that the average outcome is a draw. However, one other factor it does present is that IFK Goteborg have only beaten Elfsborg Boras twice out of the last nine encounters between these sides in the Allsvenskan. The hosts, however, have beaten their visitors today on three occasions, the most of recent of which was this fixture last season whereby the scoreline was 3-0. Frankly, I’d eat my hat if that scoreline emerged again because I don’t think IFK Goteborg are as weak now as they were in this fixture last season. They seem to have grown and matured as a squad, hence my belief they can lift the Allsvenskan trophy this season. Overall, this is a tough match to call. I’m going to be rather boring, I’m afraid, and call a draw here – 2-2 is my choice. However, given that the last two games between these two sides have produced 3+ goals, the safest bet I can recommend is an over 2.5 goals bet.
