Gareth Barry
FreeWhy?
I’m somewhat confused as to why Manchester City feel he will improve their squad. For one – it’s the last position they needed a player to play in. What about a consistent striker? Or how about a commanding centre-back? On top of that, why Gareth Barry? I just don’t see what redeeming features he actually has. I mean, take a look at just some great holding midfielders currently playing at the top of European football – Gattuso, Cambiasso, Gerrard, Essien etc. All of those players have pace, tenacity, strength, the ability to grab the game by the scruff of the neck, to score goals and in general – to be a match-winner. How many of those features does Gareth Barry actually have? In my opinion…no. He seems far too lightweight for the position he plays. I just don’t see how Manchester City can improve by buying players who are only as good as the players they already have? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying they could get any of the above midfielders, but they need to find one that improves the side, surely? All I’ll credit Barry with is his experience in the Premier League and some in Europe.
Anyway, just my two cents! Feel free to post your own thoughts. Let’s face it – it’s got to beat watching the dull encounter that is China vs Saudi Arabia.
