HJK Helsinki vs FC Lahti
FreeThe Veikkausliiga throws us a curved ball today with the encounter between HJK Helsinki and FC Lahti. On one hand we have a side who are unbeaten at home and are considered favourites for stealing the Veikkausliiga crown from Inter Turku this year. However, they entertain a side that are unbeaten in the league this season who have actually won on their last two trips here in the league. It’d be unfair not to mention that FC Lahti also fancy their chances of mounting a serious title challenge after their impressive 3rd place finish last season. Their challenge is greatly assisted by veteran Finnish footballer Jari Litmanen. Despite being 39 years of age, the playmaker still has plenty of ability and masses of experience that will no doubt be crucial as FC Lahti bid to build on their Liiga Cup triumph from 2007 to win their first ever Veikkausliiga. With all that in mind, HJK Helsinki have got to be a tad nervous entering this game, especially considering that they’ve not won in three games and they’ve not scored in this exact fixture in the last two Veikkausliiga meetings between these two sides.
I think it’s fair to say that we should have one hell of a game on our hands today, that’s for sure! I can’t see FC Lahti winning here for the third consecutive year but at the same time, I think HJK Helsinki have made a bad choice regarding who they end their run of three games without a win against. For the above reasons, my call for the game is going to be 1-1. If you forced me to pick a winner, I’d probably back a home win with the proviso of draw no bet. A safe-ish bet would be to go under 2.5 goals for this game as it’s the return leg of the fixture that tends to produce most goals.

My tips:
Mondays normally present a good selection of games but the number of very good games today is baffling and relatively alarming! There aren’t many games today that I’m not confident on, which will no doubt bite me in the backside at somepoint! However, my favourite bet of the day has to be a 4-team accumulator in the Swedish Allsvenskan including IFK Goteborg, Elfsborg, Orebro and Helsingborgs at 5/1. Incidentally, you may wish to consider including AIK Solna in this bet to make it a 5-team accumulator if you feel inclined to take a bit of a risk! The odds would then become 12/1.
Another bet that captures my attention is a 4-team accumulator including Valur Reykjavik, Hapoel Tel-Aviv, Gombak United and Dinaburg Daugavpils.
Lastly, for my risky bet of the day, I’d look at a treble including Qviding Goteborg, Assyriska Sodertalje and Alaniya Vladikavkaz.
