Despite HJK Helsinki having already won the Veikkausliiga title, they’re showing no signs whatsoever of slowing down. They’ve been absolutely superb lately, playing without any pressure on them, and scoring boatloads of goals along the way. I don’t see why hosting RoPS Rovaniemi would end any differently, to be blunt!
HJK Helsinki have easily confirmed their status as the best team in Finland right now, and considering that they’ve done it without departed Colombian striker Morelos, it’s especially impressive. I don’t think they were truly pushed, though – SJK died earlier in the season and nobody else can really get near HJK Helsinki. Still, credit where it’s due – HJK Helsinki have been very good this season.
This is the last game of the campaign for HJK Helsinki and I’d like to think that they’d put on a bit of a show for their fans as a result. They’ve already won thirteen home games this season, conceding just four goals along the way whilst averaging scoring nearly three goals per game. They’ve won eleven games in a row ahead of this fixture, one of which was the Suomen Cup final against SJK, so their momentum is through the roof at the moment. They’ve got a plethora of players that are virtually unplayable at the moment, especially with Tanaka back from lengthy absence. They can score from any situation and no team in Finland can stop them when they’re playing well, RoPS Rovaniemi included. Despite it being a redundant game, just like their past few, I expect HJK Helsinki to produce the goods here.
RoPS Rovaniemi seldom travel well. They’re without motivation for this game, and they’ve not impressed me since they lost talismanic midfielder Taylor earlier this season. They’re fighters so beating them still isn’t easy, particularly as they’ve got one of Finland’s higher regarded young managers in Malinen (one dubbed “the Finnish Mourinho”). However, their lack of unpredictability in attack makes them sitting ducks in tough games. They’ve lost most hard games over the past few months and it doesn’t get much harder than HJK Helsinki away nowadays so I feel like the northerners are in trouble here.
To me, HJK Helsinki should really clear the -2 Asian Handicap today.
Verdict: HJK Helsinki to beat the -2 Asian Handicap at 26/25.
