Legia Warsaw disappointed me by going out against FK Astana of Kazakhstan. Well, perhaps that’s unfair of me. It wasn’t the going out part that bothered me, per se, but more their limp first leg display, not to mention their capitulation after conceding. I mean, conceding goals I can accept with Legia Warsaw as they like to attack but falling to pieces goes against everything that they are so that was really disappointing to me.

Still, I’m happy to take them on again tonight. They’ve had a number of competitive matches now, and are slowly into their groove without “Hungarian” forward Nikolic. Sadiku looks a really good replacement, which was only to be expected. Furthermore, with the likes of Nagy, Kucharczyk, Hamalainen, and Radovic (when fit) behind him, it’s easy to see why Legia Warsaw score goals on a regular basis.

Ultimately, Legia Warsaw’s togetherness and belief is what wins them games, though. Having talented players obviously aids the process but there needs to be a core too, which Legia Warsaw had. Don’t forget that they held Real Madrid to a draw here last season when they should really have won and they beat Sporting Clube de Portugal here. They weren’t better than either of those teams but they worked so hard and believed in themselves so much that their opponents just couldn’t handle them. I like Legia Warsaw’s attitude, and despite their defensive vulnerability, I trust their attack to carry them through occasions like the match tonight.

Besides, Sheriff Tiraspol have little that Legia Warsaw should worry about. I like their midfield but their strikers are virtually non-existent. They do defend in a rather compact fashion but because they have so little up front they tend to defend a lot more than they attack, which lends a touch of inevitability to their games against good teams. That was what happened against Qarabagh FK, and that was very nearly what happened against Kukesi in the preceding round. They’re simply a predictable team. That doesn’t make them a bad team, per se, but I do believe that they’re out of their depth and that the Polish giants can oust them without too much fuss here.

The bare minimum I expect from this game is a home win, and I believe that the hosts have enough quality to clear the -1.5 handicap in the process.

Verdict: Legia Warsaw to beat the -1.5 Asian Handicap at 11/10.
