FreeAfter Liverpool’s 3-1 crushing home defeat against Chelsea, Rafa yet again begins to regret not biting his lip. It seems every time he tries to make a bold statement about Liverpool winning something, he puts his side under more pressure than they can handle and they begin to fall apart. However, take nothing away from Chelsea’s excellent performance at Anfield. What did stick in my head from this result, however, is that all 3 goals for Chelsea came from set pieces/crosses. Why is that relevant? Well, for those of you that know English football know that there is no manager in the English Premier League that utilises more attacks via set pieces than Sam Allardyce, currently Blackburn Rovers’ manager. His sides are always big, strong, and good in the air. Another notable aspect of this splendid manager is his ability to exploit and attack a particular weakness in the opposition, should he be given sight of one. I think Sam Allardyce will have watched the game at Anfield and simply rubbed his hands in glee. Unfortunately for Liverpool, this isn’t a great fixture to try and rebuild your form with as I expect them to discover by drawing 1-1 today. If the balance has to be tipped either way, I’d favour the hosts to steal a winning goal, but my choice remains 1-1 for this game. Regardless of whether you agree with my verdict on this fixture or not, approach with caution!!
