Los Leones!

Today’s post is dedicated to my beloved Athletic Club de Bilbao. After enduring a somewhat torrid start to the season, Los Leones have really pulled themselves together and produced a fine string of results, including wins against Atletico Madrid and Valencia. Tonight, however, they suffered a defeat at Sanchez Pizjuan in Sevilla, where England will be playing in a week’s time against Spain. Athletic Club de Bilbao emerged with a 2-1 defeat totake into the home leg at the fortress of San Mamés, which is a place no side likes to go to get a result so it should be interesting. Speaking of the match between England and Spain, Basque striker Fernando Llorente will certainly have done his chances of being in the Spanish squad for that game no harm as he scored the opening goal of the game. Part of me hopes he does well and gains the credit he deserves, but part of me fears that this level of exposure would see him move to a “bigger” club, which would set Athletic Club de Bilbao back considerably in my opinion. But we’ll see how that develops anyway!
