Montenegro U21 vs Sweden U21

There we go! Didn’t I promise a better selection for you all today?! I may have secretly implied by doing nothing at all that it was better to use sides in accumulators today to generate good odds but there’s also some good value in singles/doubles, depending on your fancy.

Today’s featured game is between Montenegro U21 and Sweden U21. Newly-formed Montenegro U21 are yet to truly establish just how good they are despite having nine games to prove it. Three wins in those games say that they can occasionally beat a semi-decent side but four defeats from those nine say that they lose to better sides. Although some might not regard them as such, Sweden U21 are one of those sides. Their performances in the U21 Championships were very good and they were unfortunate to go out against England U21 despite having been defensively inept in the first half of that game. They’ve got a good squad, some match-winners, and always have the ability to score goals. A trip to the Balkans is never an easy one but Montenegro U21 don’t have any particular stars in their squad as they tend to break into the Montenegro national side at a young age, given the absence of their stars i.e. Stevan Jovetic, Simon Vukcevic, Milan Purovic etc. I don’t doubt that Montenegro U21 will become a more difficult side in due course but that time isn’t now so I fancy capitalising on it! 11/10 on an away win for Sweden U21 here could have some real value in it!

Friday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Montenegro U21 vs Sweden U21 – away win at 11/10 – see introduction for full details.

Colon de Santa Fe vs Tigre – home win at evens. Visitors Tigre have started this campaign much as they finished the last one – badly. They recorded a win against newly-promoted Chacarita Juniors in their opening game but were then surprised by Rosario Central, who beat Tigre 2-1 at Tigre. Tigre yet again look set to become rubbing rags of the division and today is the opportune moment for that theory to be proven. Colon de Santa Fe aren’t as good as their league placing in the last campaign suggests, but they’re certainly better than Tigre and are a good mid-table side. A poor start has seen the hosts fail to win either of their opening games, though it should be noted that one of the games was at home to a very talented Velez Sarsfeld and the other was away to a difficult Racing Club Avellaneda. Today is the perfect moment for Colon de Santa Fe to kickstart their campaign and I thoroughly expect them to do so. I can’t quite believe they’re evens to win this game but I’m happy to take it!

Gimnasia De La Plata vs Velez Sarsfeld – away win at 5/4. Another impressive campaign looks on the cards for a side I tipped to do very well this year – Velez Sarsfeld. The visitors have already won at a difficult Colon de Santa Fe side and won at home to Arsenal de Sarandi, leaving today’s visitors with a 100% record currently. Unlike your average Argentinian side, Velez Sarsfeld are almost as good away from home as they are at home, currently. In the last campaign, Velez Sarsfeld were defeated just once on the road and managed to win half of their away games. They’re not the most fluent of goalscoring sides but their big strength is that they rarely concede goals. Despite having a good campaign last year, Gimnasia De La Plata have started this one abysmally with two defeats from two games and zero goals scored. When you consider that one of those games was a bitter rivalry annihlation by Estudiantes De La Plata and that the other was a shameful defeat at home to unfashionable Godoy Cruz de Mendoza, you have to start to get very worried for the hosts today. Not only are Velez Sarsfeld in good form but they’re also better than both of the afore-mentioned sides, in my opinion. I think 5/4 on an away win here looks a real bargain when you consider all of the above information!

Oldham Athletic vs Hartlepool United – home win at 10/11. This is a dubious call but I quite fancy it for one simple reason; Hartlepool United can’t score at the moment. “Amassing” just two goals in five games has proven a real problem for Hartlepool United as they currently sit inside the relegation zone. Their form now shows they’ve one just once this season and need to pick themselves up soon or they could find themselves precariously placed at Christmas time, which is the last thing any club wants! Aside from that, we all know Oldham Athletic are capable of much better than their current form indicates. Two draws from two home games this season doesn’t read too well but I sense a change in the winds given the problems their opponents face currently. Although it’ll be a tight game, I think Oldham Athletic are just about better placed to take three points tonight, particularly as they managed to do it last season and they really need the points. A home win at odds of 10/11 could prove fruitful!

Morecambe vs Rochdale – away win at 6/4. Morecambe have already shown this season the kind of form they should have shown last season – relegation form. I don’t know how they did so well last year but it appears they’ve been well and truly “found out” this year with no wins from five games. They’re already the highest conceding side in League Two, a record no side wants.  However, today’s opponents Rochdale are not without their own problems as they’ve been struggling to score in their games. That said, they did manage to annihlate bitter rivals Bury 3-0 last match, a result that will have done them a lot of good in terms of morale. As they’re facing a leaky and out-of-form Morecambe side, you have to fancy a better Rochdale side to take all three points, particularly at 6/4.

Slovenia U21 vs France U21  – away win at 10/11. Although Slovenia U21 are beginning to become a tad more difficult to face, their stars do tend to join the first team at a young age for obvious reasons, which makes Slovenia U21 a bit of a target for sides like France U21, a side that has always produced good players. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that France U21 are better than the France national side in terms of consistency and flair. The visitors might not have had a competitive game in this particular campaign yet, but they’ve got more than enough firepower to sweep past Slovenia U21 and odds of 10/11 look a bargain!
