Today’s secondary featured game is the Meistriliiga encounter between league leaders Nomme Kalju and reigning champions Flora Tallinn.
Ordinarily, I’d be all over 11/10 on Nomme Kalju winning this game but the continued absence of target man Neemelo concerns me. Nomme Kalju are not a one-man side, to be fair. There’s a lot of good quality players in their ranks, not to mention experienced players too. However, Neemelo is their best target man and their attack lacks a focal point without him. Subsequently, Nomme Kalju are still attacking well but not doing anywhere near enough in the final third. They demonstrated that against Levadia Tallinn and in both games with Azeri outfit Khazar Lenkoran. It didn’t show against Tammeka, admittedly, but who seriously thought that it would? Tammeka are awful this season and Nomme Kalju would have rightfully felt ashamed to have not annihlated them in that game. Quinteri has been impressive this season and if Nomme Kalju are to beat Flora Tallinn then you have to expect him to be an integral part of them doing so. Prins has been around long enough to guide Nomme Kalju to victory today, especially against a Flora Tallinn side that he knows inside out for obvious reasons. However, I’m not confident that they’ll do so without Neemelo.
Flora Tallinn aren’t as good as they were and their inexperience is beginning to show. Still, defensively speaking, they’re the best side in Estonia and they showed that very well against Swiss champions Basel lately. Flora lost a game 0-2 that they were totally outplayed in but they kept Basel out very well, particularly in the first-half. In terms of organisation and tactical approach, Flora are second to none in Estonia which is why I’ll be taking them seriously here. Flora do have a trip to Switzerland looming large next week and could rest players here with that in mind so I would understand if you did take Nomme Kalju to win this game. However, Nomme Kalju winning this game would put Flora Tallinn seven points behind them with seventeen games remaining. It doesn’t sound much but when you consider the standard of league, it becomes a big problem as the only sides that can realistically hope to take points off Nomme Kalju are Levadia Tallinn and themselves, especially with both of the “Russian” clubs massively disappointing this season.
Therefore, I expect Flora to line up defensively today and to have some success with it too. I think this will be a very tight game and there should be few goals unless Flora make a lot of changes. Either way, I see value in taking under 2.5 goals at 9/10.
