Queretaro vs America

Free

Despite the majority of the talk on betting being focused on today’s Manchester derby, I’m heading west to Mexico for today’s previewed game – Queretaro vs America. Why? Well, basically, the odds are some of the best you’ll see today when aligned with the likelihood of the occurence. Simply put, America are the best side in Mexico when they’re playing football the proper way. In all other occasions, it’s wise to stay away from the tempremental moneybags but at the present time, America are not only in tremendous form (four wins from five games including one draw) but they’ve also scored eighteen goals in five games, which is nearly four goals per game. When you add all the above information up and consider that the visitors are better in terms of quality, the outcome is an away win regardless of who they’re playing. However, even more delightfully, Queretaro are one of the worst sides in the Mexican Primera Division and their form indicates that perfectly as they’re still winless after eight games, having lost six of them. The hosts haven’t taken a single point in their last four games whereas visitors America have not only been annihlating sides but they’ve also been annihlating rivals, not just your average low-level clubs. Every single aspect of this fixture points to an away win and I’m frankly astounded that the odds of the away win occurring are currently at 10/11. I thoroughly expect them to drop so take them whilst you can!

Sunday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Queretaro vs America – away win at 10/11 – see introduction for full details.

Neman Grodno vs BATE Borisov – away win at 3/4. Despite a gruelling test in Lisbon mid-week, BATE Borisov still have to be considered favourites for this game. The reigning champions have currently won two of their last three games, drawing the other and generally looking very difficult to play against, as is their style. Neman Grodno have had a decent season thus far by their standards but have endured a recent slump that isn’t the kind you need when hosting the best side in the country. Currently, Neman Grodno haven’t won any of their last three games, losing their most recent encounter away to Dinamo Minsk 2-0. If Neman Grodno had been in better form then I’d have thought twice of backing an away win here today but given the above cirumstances, I can’t help but feel an away win is on the cards at 3/4.

Avai vs Gremio Barueri – home win at 19/20. A recent slump has seen Avai lost three consecutive games and drop to the middle of the table. However, it’s only their morale that has been bruised, not their ability. If Avai were hosting a better opponent then I’d probably refrain from this selection but I see this game as the perfect one for Avai to welcome three points again as the host Gremio Barueri, one of the worst away sides in Serie A. The visitors haved played well in recent weeks but just can’t get themselves together on the road. There’s not an awful lot between these two sides in terms of quality but the hosts just about edge it and I think they just about edge the tie given the above information. Don’t get me wrong, I expect a close encounter, but I can also see that the home win has value in it at 19/20.

Deportivo Cali vs Millonarios Bogota – home win at 4/5. Despite a defeat last match to bitter rivals America de Cali, Deportivo Cali are still flying high in the Futbol Profesional and remain one of the best home sides in the division currently. Three wins and one draw from four home games say that Deportivo Cali know how to make their ground a fortress. Today they host Millonarios Bogota, a side that is struggling for form with no wins in four attempts, losing their last two encounters. The hosts have more quality at their disposal and more form in their arsenal so coupled with the above information, you have to fancy a home win at 4/5.

Kolding vs Naestved – away win at evens. Six games have passed and Kolding are still without victory. They’ve lost four games and drawn two on this particular run and currently sit inside the relegation zone. Their form has slightly increased lately but not drastically, something that needs to change if they intend to prolong their stay in the Danish 1st Division. Unfortunately for Kolding, they host Naestved today, a side that has played three away games and lost none of them, winning two in the process. The visitors have some good momentum under their belts with two consecutive wins and that really should be enough to see them overcome a disjointed and ineffective Kolding outfit today. Taking the away win at evens could prove to be very good value indeed!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Fulham – away win at 17/10. This is a slightly risky call but not as much as the bookies seem to imply it, in my opinion. Visitors Fulham enter this game with virtually a full squad to choose from as they rested a lot of their starters mid-week on their trip to play CSKA Sofia in the Europa League. Despite coming under criticism from some sections of the press, Roy Hodgson will have no doubt been pleased that his side took a point from their trip to Sofia and that he’s got a good selection to choose from on their trip to Wolverhampton. However, this is where Hodgson has to answer those critics because he’s been bold enough to rest players for the trip to Sofia so Fulham have to win this game to make it worthwhile. The pressure has felled other sides in the past where similar scenarios have arisen but Fulham are generally well-prepared mentally for each game and I can’t see that varying today. Hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers have made a workmanlike start to the season but with little return as they’ve won just once in five games. Despite some great efforts, their biggest problem is scoring goals, something they’ve managed just three times in those five games, which has assisted them to their current league placing of 17th. They’ve managed just one goal at home so far and haven’t won at Molineux yet this season. Today they entertain a resolute, organised and efficient Fulham side that are more than capable of winning this game. I don’t think the host have enough to trouble the visitors but the visitors do have enough to win this game so 17/10 on the away win could have some real value in it today.

Everton vs Blackburn Rovers – home win at 3/4. Sam Allardyce hasn’t had quite the impact I expected at Blackburn Rovers with just one win in four games. However, he has made the Lancashire outfit hard to beat, which is something Sam Allardyce somehow does naturally to each side he’s in charge of. Visitors Blackburn Rovers are amongst the lowest conceders in the division currently but they’re just not scoring enough goals to make it count, more often than not. I’d have given them chance of taking a draw from Everton today had the hosts not claimed a very convincing victory over Greek side AEK Athens mid-week in the Europa League, a result that will have given them some much-needed morale. Aside from that, Everton have also welcomed back lengthy absentee Yakubu from injury so Everton manager David Moyes now has a rather varied set of options in attack as they take on Blackburn Rovers. Goodison Park is a hard place to play so I give the home side a little advantage there but the momentum they’ll have taken mid-week is what has tipped the scales even moreso in my eyes so there looks to be value in the home win at 3/4.

Jaro Pietarsaari vs TPS Turku – away win at 4/5. Four wins in five games says that TPS Turku have a very legitimate title challenge in front of them and have the perfect opportunity to extend that run against a poor Jaro Pietarsaari side that although managed to win their last match still don’t have the quality to match TPS Turku. TPS Turku have lost less away games in the Veikkausliiga this season than any other side with just one defeat as the sole blemish on their outstanding away record. There’s only a few games remaining in the Veikkausliiga and they’re one of just three sides left with a realistic chance of claiming the Veikkausliiga title this season. They’re currently joint top of the table with HJK Helsinki and need every three points they can muster. This is a must win game for TPS Turku and they have everything they need to ensure it happens so odds of 4/5 are welcome for the away win here.

St.Pauli vs Kaiserslautern – home win at 11/10. Hosts St.Pauli have been excellent in the Bundesliga 2 this season with four wins from five games, drawing the other. They average scoring over three goals per game currently and have everything in their favour entering this game. They’re hosting a Kaiserslautern side that aren’t in bad form themselves with three wins from five games, leaving them currently unbeaten. Unlike their hosts, however, Kaiserslautern’s main boast is the number of goals they concede as they’ve conceded just three in their opening five Bundesliga 2 games. In that respect, we have a mis-match of sides here so it’ll be interesting to see what ensues when they play each other. In my eyes, St.Pauli are just too rampant, even for an organised Kaiserslautern side to contain. For the above reasons, I think St.Pauli will just about edge this game and it’s certainly worth a punt at 11/10.

PAOK Salonika vs Olympiakos Piraeus – home win at draw no bet odds of 4/5. After the premature sacking of Georgian manager Temuri Ketsbaia, Olympiakos Piraeus have made a grave mistake in appointing Brazilian Zico as their new manager, in my opinion. Zico has already proven that he is an unpredictable manager that often struggles to guide his sides to victories over the “lesser” clubs. He failed to maintain CSKA Moscow’s status as giants in the Russian Premier League this season, hence his dismissal. Olympiakos Piraeus still have problems that he needs to address to the trip to face PAOK Salonika isn’t currently welcome as PAOK Salonika boast one of their best squads for some years now. A baffling draw at home to Kavala last match shows that the reigning champions are not firing on all cylinders whereas today’s hosts PAOK Salonika are already showing how they intend to finish the season as they’re currently unbeaten and scoring goals for fun. I think this will be a close game but due to Olympiakos Piraeus not being back to their best (something I don’t think we’ll see of them for some time whilst Zico remains there) I do fancy a home win with draw no bet odds of 4/5.

IBV Vestmmanaeyjar vs Fylkir Reykjavik – away win at 9/10. This is a bit of a no-brainer, really! Fylkir Reykjavik are the better side here and have won four from their last five games as they seek out a European place for next year. IBV Vestmannaeyjar haven’t won in four games (two losses, two draws) and look prime suspects to taste defeat today. The hosts are in a relatively comfortable place in terms of relegation so they have no great dependency upon this game. Effectively, the visitors have everything in their favour that they need to win this game so odds of 9/10 on the away win looks favourable.

Chievo Verona vs Genoa – away win at 6/4. Yet another win for ever-impressive Genoa mid-week leaves us wondering just how far they can actually go. They’ve won three from three league games and now one from one Europa League game. They’re a big goalscoring side and don’t concede as often as you might think given that they prefer to attack rather than defend. Genoa are clinical, efficient, and very much in-form. Generally, Genoa are a home side but the past couple of years they’ve started to work on their away performances too. Today they face a Chievo Verona side that is generally a tough game but Genoa have everything in their favour to make the away win a reality here. Chievo Verona are atypically a haphazard side and this has shown wth their form as they’ve lost two games and then claimed their first win of the season by winning at Bologna last match. Despite Chievo Verona being a difficult side to play against, Genoa have far too much in their favour for it to affect my decision to take the away win at 6/4. All hail the new Genoa!

Heerenveen vs FC Twente Enschede – away win at 11/10. There’s a massive quality difference on show here today with Heerenveen barely being able to score a goal this season, let alone win a game. They’ve lost three games consecutively, four if you include their Europa League defeat at home to Sporting Clube de Lisboa mid-week. FC Twente Enschede, by contrast, emerged with three points from a nightmarish trip to Fenerbahce where bigger names have failed before them. FC Twente Enschede have also won four from six league games, leaving them unbeaten in fact. They currently look everything that Heerenveen don’t so the away win at 10/11 looks good value.

FC Zwolle vs Go Ahead Eagles – away win at 6/4. FC Zwolle have disappointed me so far this season as they’ve claimed just one win from seven games. They seem unable to take a lead and hold it, basically. Ironically, Go Ahead Eagles appear to have reversed places with FC Zwolle during the summer as the hosts were one of the better sides in the division last year but this year it’s Go Ahead Eagles who are currently top of the table with six wins from seven games, leaving them unbeaten. Their biggest boast is that they’ve conceded just three goals so far so an out-of-sorts FC Zwolle shouldn’t be a great issue for the visitors today. Nonetheless, there’s not much between these two sides so do approach with caution. However, the away win at 6/4 does look favourable in my eyes.

Wisla Krakow vs Polonia Bytom – home win with -1.75 handicap at 10/11. Despite all of their pre-season problems, Wisla Krakow have looked immaculate since then, which is pleasing to see. They currently possess a 100% record this season with six wins from six games, scoring over two goals per game on average and conceding once every three games on average. They’re a frightening side to play against when they’re in this kind of form and lowly Polonia Bytom will not be looking forward to this game at all, despite some good early form from themselves this season. To their credit, they’ve only conceded three goals this season but they’ve not faced a very potent Wisla Krakow yet either! The hosts look untouchable at present and should have far too much for Polonia Bytom to deal with. Taking the home win with -1.75 handicap at 10/11 looks a steal, really.

Tom Tomsk vs Rubin Kazan – away win at 17/20. I still can’t believe that Rubin Kazan are walking the Russian Premier League for the second year running now but here we are! Tomsk is not the easiest of away games which is why the odds are good for this selection. However, having seen Spartak Moscow stumble at local rivals Saturn Moscow Oblast yesterday, Rubin Kazan will be spurred on even moreso. Six straight wins and the title in sight says that Rubin Kazan have all the incentives they need to win this game and momentum gives them a great chance of doing so, despite a mid-week defeat in Kiev in the UEFA Champions League. Tom Tomsk haven’t won in three games now and although they’ll be resilient opposition for Rubin Kazan, I can’t see them avoiding being swept away by the league leaders and odds of 17/20 are good odds to see it happen at.

CSKA Moscow vs Dinamo Moscow – home win at 17/20. Now that CSKA Moscow have got a proper manager installed at the club, I fully expect to see them pose a much greater threat. Juande Ramos has already signalled his intent by dropping the unpopular Daniel Carvalho and replacing him with wonderkid Guilherme, recently loaned from Dynamo Kiev, and the benefits were clear to see as CSKA Moscow romped home to a 3-0 victory over Krylya Sovetov Samara. Dinamo Moscow have been out of sorts for some time and can’t seem to find any level of consistency. They’ve one just once in their last five games and have lost three of those games. Effectively, we have one side in the ascension here and the other in descent so it should be relatively straightforward. Do approach with some caution as this is a derby, albeit not the main derby, but odds of 17/20 are hard to pass up on.

Athletic Club de Bilbao vs Villarreal – home win at 13/8, over 2.5 goals at evens. This is one of my favourite calls of the day and not just because Athletic Club de Bilbao are my second team! I do try my best to not let bias affect my selections and feel I do quite well too! However, the hosts are in fantastic form currently and have been playing some of the best football I’ve seen them play for some years. They’ve won both domestic games so far without conceding a goal, which is amusing because Athletic Club de Bilbao cannot defend for shit! However, they’ve looked very potent in front of goal and that was evident in their mid-week victory over Austria Vienna in the Europa League. Fernando Llorente looks his usual self scoring goals at every opportunity and Iker Muniain looks better every time I see him – it’s hard to believe he’s just sixteen! Athletic Club de Bilbao are in a very good position in terms of morale and momentum entering this game, so much so that I’m able to disregard the horrific head-to-head statistics they possess against Villarreal. The visitors haven’t looked the same without Pellegrini in charge, which is understandable as the little club was made into a big threat by him. The Yellow Submarines have found goalscoring amongst their chief issues as they’ve scored just one goal in each of their last three games in all competitions, winning just once in the process. San Mames is no place for a side that isn’t at its best and I think we might see that today, which is why I fancy the home win at 13/8. Aside from that, both sides are capable of scoring goals and the hosts cannot defend so over 2.5 goals also looks a good bet at evens. Either way, this could well be one of the games of the day to watch so watch it if you’re able!

Real Zaragoza vs Real Valladolid – home win at evens. Real Valladolid have to be amongst the contenders to be relegated this season with negative transfer activity over the summer leaving the club looking a little poor at the moment. They’ve lost one game and drawn the other already in the Primera Liga and I can’t see them claiming points off a well-organised Real Zaragoza who know this is the kind of game they need to win to stay in the Primera Liga in the long run. Hosts Real Zaragoza have already taken a battering at Sevilla this season, as you’d expect, but they did manage to win their opening home game against Tenerife, which was important for them. They now have something to take into this game and I think it’ll be enough against a poor Real Valladolid. I don’t anticipate a great game but a narrow home win looks on the cards at evens.

Almeria vs Getafe – away win with draw no bet odds of 10/11. Along with Real Valladolid, Almeria are prime candidates to taste relegation this season. If indeed possible, they were even worse in the transfer market than Real Valladolid were, losing far too many good players to make their old home advantage have the same bearing. They haven’t managed to score a goal yet, which must be a real worry as they’ve played two games and one of those was at home to relegation battlers Real Valladolid (whom they faced the ten men of for over seventy minutes of the game) whilst the other was away to another relegation battler Sporting Gijon. With this goalscoring impotence, it looks unlikely Almeria will be able to stay in the league and today is yet another unwelcome visitor that could well make that point all too clear – Getafe. Having already scalped Racing Club de Santander 4-1 away from home and battled tenaciously with Barcelona at home last match, Getafe appear well-motivated for the season ahead and dangerous in front of goal currently. They’re in botter form and a better mental state than Almeria so I’m thinking the away win with draw no bet odds of 10/11 could prove to be very fruitful indeed when you consider that Almeria simply cannot score. As ever, I’ll leave the decision up to you all!

Hercules Alicante vs Cadiz – home win at 4/5. An embarassing defeat at home last match by Villarreal II had me confused but then again, almost all of the games last saturday were deeply confusing – it was just one of those days. Hercules Alicante were reduced to ten men early on and conceded a late goal when pushing for a winner thus losing the game 1-0. However, the fact doesn’t change that Hercules Alicante are a very good side and one of the favourites for promotion and I expect them to enforce that today against lowly Cadiz. The visitors are still winless after three games and sit just outside the relegation zone with little chance of improving on that if they don’t start performing well. They’ve only managed to score one goal in those three games and thus look likely to lose to a potent Hercules Alicante, with the proviso that the hosts keep eleven men on the field this time and thus take their chances! Either way, 4/5 on a home win here is not to be missed out on!

Real Sociedad vs Girona – home win at 4/5. Despite a fairly indifferent start to their campaign, Real Sociedad are currently unbeaten and enter this game with some good momentum from their victory over Gimnastic de Tarragona last match. They’ll undoubtedly missing striker Diaz de Cerio, who departed for Athletic Club de Bilbao in summer, but they appear to be settling down ok now. Today they’re hosting a hapless Girona that haven’t won any of their three games this season and appear pure cannon fodder for Real Sociedad today in their bid to continue their winning run. There’s a difference in quality on display here today and I expect that to show by the final whistle. Again, 4/5 looks good value for the home win today.

Brommapojkarna vs Djurgardens – home win at evens. The worst away side in the division, Djurgardens, looks all set to keep that ridiculous record and make it ten defeats on the road from twelve games. With no wins in five games, Djurgardens look destined for the Superettan next season and I see little to change my mind on this issue. Brommapojkarna are doing their best to ensure they stay in the Allsvenskan and have a much better chance of doing so given their current league placing and their ability to do what Djurgardens seemingly cannot – win a game! The hosts will be buoyant from their win against Helsingborgs last match and it doesn’t take much incentive for a side to take the initiative against a woeful Djurgardens at the present time. The vultures are already circling around Djurgardens so for me, this game has a home win written all over it and evens is good odds to see it occur at.
