River Plate vs Estudiantes De La Plata

Free

River Plate vs Estudiantes De La Plata is today’s featured game. Why? Well, bluntly – 6/5 for a home win is FANTASTIC! Why? Allow me to explain!

1. River Plate are one of only two sides in the division to boast that they are unbeaten at home
2. River Plate have won six out of nine home games
3. River Plate are simply better than Estudiantes De La Plata
4. Estudiantes De La Plata have the first leg of the Copa Libertadores Final on their minds as it is being played on wednesday
5. Estudiantes De La Plata have only won two away games from eight this campaign
6. Estudiantes De La Plata haven’t beaten River Plate in their last three meetings
7. River Plate won this fixture 4-2 last season

Does anything else need to be added? I’m feeling a lot of confidence in this pick and recommend taking the best odds you can find on this game because they’re sure to sink rapidly!

Saturday’s Picks

My tips:

River Plate vs Estudiantes De La Plata – home win at 5/6 – see introduction for full details

Banfield vs Tigre – home win at 5/6. Despite it being the final game of the season, a home win at 5/6 looks very tempting here. Banfield have played well this season, perhaps better than expected even given that they’re not very good. They have an impressive home record of five wins from eight games and entertain a Tigre side that have well and truly bowed out of the limelight in this campaign, succumbing to a campaign amassing just five wins from eighteen games. They’re not so bad on the road – two wins, four draws, four defeats – but in a game that means nothing, Banfield will have the edge and also the form to take them to victory whereas Tigre have now lost two on the bounce.

Colon de Santa Fe vs Boca Juniors – home win at 10/11. I never thought I’d endorse a side to beat Argentinian legends Boca Juniors, but after a tremendous campaign, you can’t help but appreciate the form and ability of Colon de Santa Fe. They’ve now won three games on the bounce and have a good home record with six wins from nine games. They have also conceded the least amount of goals in the league at home (five goals – joint record with Velez Sarsfeld, Banfield and San Martin de Tucuman) so already it’s clear a lacklustre and toothless Boca Juniors will have their work cut out here.  Boca Juniors are just about to end one of their worst campaigns for some time. Their away record is frankly shocking – just one away win from nine in this campaign. They have no consistency currently and have appeared weak in every competition they’ve been in thus far. They need to shape up for next season but for the time being, I fancy them to lose this rather comfortably and 11/10 is good odds to take on that occurring.

FC Smorgon vs Dnepr Mogilev – away win at evens. I’m naturally dubious about away wins in the Belarusian Vysshaya Liga but I am rather tempted by this one. Dnepr Mogilev have made a good start to this season and currently find themselves in fifth place. For some reason, they seem to enjoy playing away more than they do at home with an intriguing three away wins from seven games thus far. They travel to lowly FC Smorgon, a side that is destined to be relegated this season because they’re shit, if I’m brutally honest. Their home record is one win, two draws and three defeats in this campaign and they’ve scored a measly three goals all season, which is an average of one every two games. Dnepr Mogilev do not like conceding goals and I can’t see a misfiring FC Smorgon breaking their resistance so a narrow away win does look favourable here, and evens isn’t bad odds to take it at either. Also, as a side-point, under 2.5 goals looks a good idea here as the hosts don’t like scoring and the visitors don’t like conceding.

FC Vitebsk vs Shakhtyor Soligorsk – away win at 2/1. This is arguably my riskiest bet of the day and the odds accurately portray this. Shakhtyor Soligorsk are a side that are much more capable than their league placing indicates. They’ve endured a torrid campaign thus far but are beginning to awaken. They’ve claimed two wins from their last two games, one of which was a mightily impressive scalp of reigning champions BATE Borisov at the home of the champions, which is in fact the only defeat BATE Borisov have suffered in the league so far. If that’s not enough to buoy a side, I don’t know what is! Shakhtyor Soligorsk’s away form is decent; one win, two draws and one defeat on the road and they travel to an FC Vitebsk side that has claimed just two wins from their six home games this season, losing the other four. They’ve also lost four from their last five games and are on a slippery slope heading downwards. With Shakhtyor Soligorsk unbeaten in four games now, an away win at 2/1 certainly looks inviting…

KuPS Kuopio vs RoPS Rovaniemi  – away win at 15/8. This is probably the most interesting bet of the day, at least in my perspective. RoPS Rovaniemi have fought like warriors these last few games. They’ve been unlucky in some but have finally got their just rewards with three points from their home game with JJK Jyvaskyla last match. They’re beginning to show the kind of dogged tenacity that earned them at least partial respect in the Veikkausliiga last campaign. KuPS Kuopio seem to get worse every time they play. They’ve now lost an embarassing seven times in a row. If that isn’t relegation form, I don’t know what is. You need to approach this game with caution as it is a relegation dogfight. I’ll level with you though – I don’t think there’s a better side for fighting to win games than RoPS Rovaniemi in the Veikkausliiga. Interestingly, RoPS Rovaniemi won here 1-0 last season so I’m going to call the exact same scoreline because the hosts have only scored one goal in seven games and the visitors have scored six goals in four games. 15/8 is beginning to look a little tempting now, isn’t it?

PoPa Pori vs Viikingit Helsinki – away win at 6/5. The Ykkonen is no place for an amateur gambler – you have to be very careful, particularly in a game like this. Both of these sides have made very good starts to their respective campaigns. Newly promoted PoPa Pori have an impressive home record of three wins from five games so far. However, they entertain an experienced Ykkonen side in Viikingit Helsinki, a side who just missed out on promotion to the Veikkausliiga last season. To be honest, they’re not a bad bet to be promoted this season, particularly when they boast a good away record like they currently have – three wins from five games. The hosts have won two on the bounce but the visitors have won five on the bounce. There’s not too much between these two sides but the visitors just have the edge and if they turn up, that 6/5 is going to do some of you a big favour. As I said earlier though, approach with caution as this isn’t the most reliable of leagues.
