Today’s secondary featured game is the title-deciding game between Slovan Liberec and Viktoria Plzen.
Legs are tiring in the Liberec camp but their resilience and potency remain as strong as they have been all season long. A morale-boosting 0-2 win at Jablonec in their last game has seen Liberec see off the challenge of Sparta Prague in their push for the Gambrinus Liga. However, from the ashes came a new rival – Viktoria Plzen.
You could be forgiven for thinking that Plzen wouldn’t be in the Gambrinus Liga title race this season due to their UEFA Europa League committments. Tired players and shifting focus saw Plzen’s season brought to a standstill over a four-week period, crashing out of the UEFA Europa League against Schalke 04, losing 2-0 in the Czech Cup against Mlada Boleslav, and losing 0-4 against Sigma Olomouc in the Gambrinus Liga. Those were bad times for Plzen and I thought we’d seen the last of them this season despite them possessing one of the best sides in the country.
However, I couldn’t been more wrong! Since then, Plzen have astoundingly won eight out of their last nine games, only conceding in one game along the way! They’ve been exemplary in their attitude and their tactical approach to games so my hat goes off to them. Indeed, they’ve done so well that a 0-3 victory for them today would actually see them crowned champions, which is an interesting prospect.
For me, Plzen are the better side here. They’re more experienced in title challenging affairs and they’ve got a better class of player, which is important. That said, Slovan Liberec have been magnificent this season and have played with lots of belief, not to mention scoring goals for fun. Their defence has been portrayed to look better than it is in recent weeks and I think Plzen can and will exploit that today with their pace and movement.
To predict a winner here, though – that’s a challenge! I do favour Plzen to win the game because they’ve looked immaculate and they are the better side but there’s no way I’d get involved on the 1×2 side of things here. The market that does interest is me taking over 2.5 goals, however. Slovan can’t defend as well as they’d like and it’s not in their nature to sit back so I doubt you’ll see them play for the draw here. Plzen don’t do that either and they can’t afford to if they want to win the league. Therefore, I think we’ll ultimately see an open game here which should hopefully give us goals too. With Breznanik, Stajner, Bosancic, Kolar, Pilar, Petrzela, and Bakos on the field, I can’t help but feel that over 2.5 goals is a good bet at 9/10.
Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 9/10.
