Today’s secondary featured game is the Eliteserien game between Stromsgodset and Honefoss.
I watched Stromsgodset’s recent trip to the Lerkendal to take on mighty Rosenborg and was as impressed as ever with the plucky outfit. Stromsgodset generally only do well on their artificial turf at home in Drammen but this season they’ve become a real threat on the road too. The thing is with Stromsgodset is that they don’t fear any side and I admire that. It aids them massively against sides like Rosenborg, who prey on those who show them too much respect. Stromsgodset forced the issued throughout the game in Trondheim and thoroughly deserved to get something out of the encounter, which ended 3-3 thanks to a hat-trick from the impressive Kamara. Stromsgodset believe in themselves and have a wealth of attacking options, not least in Kamara and the towering Hungarian striker Kovacs but also in Diomande, Abu, and old hand Storflor. I love the unity in this team and the way that no player is bigger than the club. They lost Berget and Nordkvelle pre-season and Pedersen the year before that but the Stromsgodset machine simply rolls on. They’re horrific defensively; don’t ever give them any confidence of keeping a clean sheet because they almost never will. However, they’re a great goalscoring side and they’re very hard to play against, especially at home, so I rate their chances strongly here.
Honefoss look respectable in the Eliteserien table but they’re not an especially good side. Their away record looks better than it actually is, in my view. They played a great game to win in Trondheim against Rosenborg (although the hosts were awful in that game) but have achieved what most other sides can in their other games, taking advantage of Tromso’s striker issues at the time to draw 0-0 at the Alfheim and being able to keep out some rather predictable attacks in other games. This is a very different game for little Honefoss and it’s one that they’ve only encountered once this season, which was in their 1-1 draw at home against Molde FK. Molde FK don’t travel well anyway but that was Honefoss’ first experience of a free-flowing attacking side and despite the missed penalty from Bolseth, Molde were always threatening as Honefoss’ defensive stability threatened to be undermined by the pace of the Molde attack. Stromsgodset possess a lot of pace in attack too so you have to feel that Honefoss are in for a rough ride here.
Rosenborg are the biggest side in Norway. Molde are the reigning champions. Tromso play their home games in the Arctic Circle. There’s no space for away sides to do anything at the Color Line in Aalesund! However, there is no harder away game in Norway than the trip to the Marienlyst to take on Stromsgodset, in my view. Honefoss have done well so far but I think the hosts may tear them a new one today, which is why I’ve opted for Stromsgodset with the -1 Asian Handicap at 4/5.
