Shakhtar Donetsk vs Dynamo Kiev

Shakhtar Donetsk boast the advantage, having stolen an away goal at Dynamo Kiev last week and emerged with a 1-1 draw when they should really have lost the game. Unfortunately, I think this game may spell the end of the line for league leaders Dynamo Kiev. Shakhtar Donetsk are very good on their own ground, as many sides have discovered this season. They’re full of confident, able footballers who keep the ball well. They’re not a flair side per se; they’ll be happy to keep the ball and steal a goal on the counter-attack rather than push early on for a goal. Dynamo Kiev have to attack here and they could well be caught at the back by the pace of Luiz Adriano or Willian, for example. The visitors really need Artem Milevskiy to be at his best, causing problems to the Shakhtar Donetsk back four with his pace, height and physical strength. To be honest, I can’t see anything but a home win in this game; 1-0 is the scoreline in my head, but it could easily be 2-0. The only way Dynamo Kiev have a chance in my eyes is if they score first and score early. That will open the game up and I daresay it may even go to extra-time. However, my call remains 1-0 for this game – don’t be surprised if it’s one of the more uninteresting encounters in the UEFA Cup this year either!
