Stabaek vs FC Copenhagen

Free

Before I begin today’s post, I have to confess to pissing my sides last night. I was sat watching FC Twente vs Sporting Clube de Lisboa with my good friend (whom we shall call Omega) and we both bet in play that this would be a draw/Sporting Clube de Lisboa to score the next goal. Well, the Portuguese side were poor attack-wise and offered very little in the way of penetration and frankly, over two legs, the Dutch outfit deserved to progress. However, they (and us!) had underestimated the powers that are possessed by Rui the dodgy fucker Patricio, the Sporting Clube de Lisboa goalkeeper! He came up for a corner in minute 94 of 95 and managed to shoulder an effort towards goal which was deflected in off a defender but should still stand as his goal in my opinion. Honestly, I’ve not seen something so funny for some time now! Me and Omega cracked up laughing – I’m still laughing now – because it was just utterly ridiculous. We’d done little else but criticise Rui Patricio for his bizarre goalkeeping style in the game and then he goes and saves our respective bets! Anyway, if you’ve not seen it yet (and youtube haven’t removed it) then feel free to witness Rui Patricio to the rescue!

This is going to be a very interesting game indeed! My chosen game today is between Norwegians Stabaek and Danes FC Copenhagen in what should be a closely fought Scandinavian affair. The Danes had the better of the first leg, winning 3- 1 somewhat comfortably. However, that solo away goal has given Stabaek some hope as they are virtually masters at home. No side has an easy ride when travelling to play Stabaek. FC Copenhagen have impressed me this year so I’m hesitant to place a large bet on this outcome but I do think there’s a good chance of a home win here. Stabaek’s ground is virtually a fortress, as I’ve mentioned earlier, and there’s not too much between these two sides in terms of quality. However, odds on a home win of 6/4 look very inviting and I certainly think it’s worth a punt!

Wednesday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Stabaek vs FC Copenhagen – home win at 6/4 – see introduction for full details.

Debreceni VSC vs Levadia Tallinn – home win with -1.75 handicap at 13/10. As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, Levadia Tallinn really aren’t very good on the European stage and were fortunate against a dismal Wisla Krakow. The first leg of this tie showed that the Hungarians are the better side; I expect them to further Levadia Tallinn’s lesson on how to play football here by winning comfortably. Debreceni VSC don’t have to play well to win this game – even if they just sit and counter they should comfortably dispose of the Estonians. Believe me when I say that Debreceni VSC have not battled past tough Swedish outfit Kalmar to crash out to Estonian minnows Levadia Tallinn! Frankly, odds of 13/10 on a -1.75 handicap here is an absolute bargain, possibly my biggest recommendation of the day!

Avai vs Santo Andre – home win at 5/6. Avai yet again managed to confound tipsters (myself included!) by claiming a draw at Corinthians, gritty though it was! It seems that nobody has the soluton to stopping Avai’s unbeaten run and it seems very unlikely that little Santo Andre, with four defeats from their past five games, will be able to provide that solution. Frankly, I’m surprised the bookies have given odds of just 5/6 on a home win here as I think it’s a lot more likely despite the fact that there’s not too much difference in quality between the two sides. This should be a very good bet!

JJK Jyvaskyla vs KuPS Kuopio – home win at evens. After their heroic win at Haka Valkeakoski last match, you have to sense that JJK Jyvaskyla are doing their utmost to climb away from the relegation zone and it’s working too! Their form lately has been admirable; two wins and a draw from their past three games. Today they’re hosting the only side in the Veikkausliiga that has been truly vying with them for bottom place, which is KuPS Kuopio. Immediately you should be aware that this will be a fiery and even desperate encounter as both sides desperately need the points. KuPS Kuopio aren’t doing too bad themselves though, unbeaten in their past three games, even if they have all been draws. I’m not going to get too carried away by JJK Jyvaskyla’s superb away win last game; players can get complacent over such a victory and the visitors will be anything but complacent because they can’t afford to be. However, I do think they’re better than KuPS Kuopio and taking advantage of that at evens is certainly worth your thought.

TP 47 Tornio vs PS Kemi Kings  – away win at 6/5. Although they’ve managed to climb away from the bottom of the table a little, TP 47 Tornio are still strong candidates to face relegation this year. They’ve still weak despite winning and drawing their last two games. Today they entertain PS Kemi Kings, a side that knows how to play football and has won their last two games consecutively. They’re the better side here ultimately and their away record is enough to overcome their hosts’ home record if they turn up. 6/5 looks good odds for this game but do approach with caution – away wins in the Ykkonen aren’t the most common of results!

Viikingit Helsinki vs PK 35 Helsinki – home win at 5/6. I was a little unsure of whether to call this or not but I’ve decided to after a little further research. Viikingit Helsinki are one of the best sides in the division and were unfortunate to not earn promotion to the Veikkausliiga last season. PK 35 Helsinki aren’t a poor side by any stretch of the imagination; they’re just not as good as today’s hosts. Unfortunately for PK 35 Helsinki, this game is coming at the wrong time for them. They were previously on a run of three straight wins but a humiliating 5-1 defeat at home by Atlantis FC Helsinki, the bottom club in the Ykkonen, has left them brusied and battered mentally. Viikingit Helsinki are absolutely flying with three wins from four games and no defeat in twelve games now. If that’s not enough, also bear in mind that the hosts have beaten PK 35 Helsinki in the last four encounters between these two sides – two at home and two away. Convinced yet? You should be! Be cautious though, both sides are good here, but it should ultimately end as a home win.

Fjolnir Reykjavik vs Throttur Reykjavik – home win at 3/4. I can’t really explain too much to you about this game other than Fjolnir Reykjavik are the better side from these two and they’re in better form – it’s just that simple!
