Today’s secondary featured game is the Serie A encounter between Sao Paulo and Coritiba.

Sao Paulo gave their new boss the ideal start with a 2-3 win in Belo Horizonte against Cruzeiro. Sao Paulo played a much more open game in that encounter and very nearly got punished for doing so. That seems to be their new style, however, and that should see them produce more over 2.5 goals games going forward. Star striker Luis Fabiano is suspended for this game, unfortunately, although they should have plenty of firepower with Fernandinho up front, although rumour has it that he won’t be wearing a Sao Paulo shirt for much longer. Playmaker Jadson is still outstanding – not sure why he even went back to Brazil when he was one of the top players at Shakhtar Donetsk, for my money – and against a side like Coritiba, who don’t ever try to defend, Sao Paulo should have plenty of joy here. Let’s not forget that the sensational Lucas Moura will be lining up against Coritiba’s “B” team tonight so suffice to say that I expect Sao Paulo to do well in this game and to play an open game, thus creating plenty of chances. Let’s face it – they’re all champing at the bit to impress their new boss so Sao Paulo should give us a good display here, especially on the back of a good win.

Coritiba will be fielding their “B” team in this game in preparation for the second leg of the Copa do Brasil final. Only Jonas and Emerson out of their regular starting eleven will feature here as both are unable to face Palmeiras in their next game. However, for those of you thinking about handicapping Sao Paulo, please be careful here. Coritiba’s style of football is to attack and to score goals. This style is reflected throughout all of their teams and all the new players arriving in their team for this game play that way too. That does give them scope to concede a lot of goals, admittedly, but it also enables them to create chances and score goals more easily than most sides. Coritiba aren’t as good as Sao Paulo, admittedly, but Coritiba are such a confident side that it doesn’t tend to matter them who they’re facing; they attack and score goals regardless.

Therefore, I’m left with no alternative but to consider taking over 2.5 goals at 9/10 as a good value bet between these two sides today. Hell, Coritiba can’t defend so Sao Paulo could potentially achieve it by themselves! Either way, my call is for the game to go over 2.5 goals.

Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 9/10. Why not bet on this game now at William Hill?
