Featured game

CSKA Sofias Levski Sofia – home win at 7/5.

Today’s featured game is the A PFG derby between CSKA and Levski. That immediately states “don’t wade heavily into this game with betting” but I fancy the “home” win here nonetheless.

First of all, this game is being played at Levski’s stadium, which isn’t a great surprise and it’s not a new venue to CSKA either, having played a decent number of games there over the past couple of years.

Secondly, Penev was named as CSKA boss for the fifth term recently and I expect that to inspire the team. After all, he’s their most successful manager and only a certain type of manager can manage CSKA and he does have what it takes to take this talented side to the A PFG title, especially with such a lack of competition.

CSKA, for me, have the best side in Bulgaria. Litex look weak, Levski can’t score goals now that Dembele has gone, whereas CSKA have strengthened massively with the addition of ex-Internazionale playmaker Ianis Zicu from Poli Timisoara in Romania. He’s dramatically increased their potency and when we consider that they already have talented young Spas Delev and Brazilian duo Moraes and Michel, we really do have a terrifying attack that most sides simply cannot deal with. Penev is a good man-motivator and with the best side in Bulgaria at his disposal, I can only see him doing well here.

Levski are no pushovers when it comes to being beaten but they’re absolutely a shadow this year of what they were last year. Dembele’s sale has irreperable damaged their 4-5-1 as nobody else can do what he did up top. His sale even makes the sale of attacking midfielder Joaozinho last season look a bit silly, to be honest. Tasevski is always going to be a threat and Levski do have some very experienced players but let’s be realistic here – they’ve been very poor this season in the vast majority of their games and looking at their squad, who is going to make the difference here? Tasevski can but he’s up against a very good side so it’s going to be difficult.

With all of the above in mind, I do think CSKA will edge this one. They’ve got better attacking players and although their defence can be a tad suspect, I think that Penev’s arrival will fill them with enthusiasm and that CSKA should take three points from this game at very good odds.

Verdict: CSKA Sofia to win at 7/5.
