Today’s featured game is the Cypriot derby between APOEL Nicosia and Olympiakos Nicosia.
Cyprus hasn’t been too kind to me in the past weekend but I’m hoping it will be today. Indeed, I’m going to be very surprised if it’s not as this game is widely regarded to be a banker. Why? Well, we all know that APOEL are the best side in the country either by foul means or by fair but there’s something else at work here; something other than Olympiakos Nicosia being rubbish and strapped for cash.
Yes, these two sides have a very friendly relationship indeed. It’s no coincidence that APOEL Nicosia paid well over the odds for Elder Souza from OIympiakos Nicosia in the last week or so when it was quite unnecessary to do so. Olympiakos will have to repay the favour, of course, and will most probably bend over in their usual fashion. Check the history – APOEL almost always beat Olympiakos and it’s really no coincidence that that’s the case.
Olympiakos may score here to make it look good but APOEL will almost certainly win this game and given Olympiakos’ lessened quality and lessened effort for this game, the -1.5 handicap really appeals to me at 4/5.
