Today’s secondary featured game is the UEFA Europa League game in Andorra between Santa Coloma and Croatia’s Osijek.
How else can I put this? I just don’t feel that Osijek are worth the ridiculously short odds that they’ve been given. Yes, they’re the better side, and yes, they should win the game. However, they struggle enough in the Prva Liga when playing away from home so God knows why they’re so short when facing a fairly lengthy trip across the Mediterranean. They last appeared in Europe in 2006, which means that they’ve had a six-year absence. Their hosts, on the other hand, appear in European football most years and thus they do have more experience, ironically enough.
Say what you will about Andorran football; it is improving. Don’t get me wrong here; I would be surprised to see Santa Coloma win this game. Andorran sides tend to lack a bit of stamina as the games go on, after all. However, they’re a lot more physical and well-organised than they used to be and an uninspired Osijek side doesn’t fill me with confidence that we’ll see a dominant away win here.
Osijek sold promising striker Maglica to Hajduk Split over the past couple of months and the fact that they miss Sorsa up front and Pusic in midfield only makes this game harder for Osijek. They’re bereft of money and match practice here so again, I’ve no idea why they’re so short to win what is potentially a tough game.
Santa Coloma did well against a superior Birkirkara in their last European home game, only eventually succumbing to two goals as the game began to draw to a conclusion. I think that they’ll make Osijek work really hard and that coupled with rustiness makes this game a lot tighter than the odds suggest.
For me, taking under 3.5 goals has to be worth a punt at 6/5.
