Tromso vs Sandefjord

Free

In the Norwegian Tippeligaen, today’s featured game sees two out-of-form sides clash as Tromso host Sandefjord. The visitors are currently placed above today’s hosts but I can’t envision that lasting with Sandefjord finding life in the Tippeligaen tough after a good start. The trip to the Alfheim Stadium is not one to be undertaken lightly as the city of Tromso is based in the Arctic Circle, some 1120 miles (approximately) from Sandefjord. The visitors haven’t tasted victory in their last four games, which include three defeats. That said, the hosts are also struggling with just one win from five games. However, Tromso are adept to dealing with the pressures of top-flight football and they often make their unique home advantage count. Their home record shows they’ve only lost once at home this season, and that was a 4-2 defeat by league leaders Rosenborg BK. Tromso have drawn three and won once at home with their main issue being goalscoring, having only scored five goals at home all season. However, today they face a side low on morale that have travelled a great distance to play this game so I expect Tromso to make it count and win this game, which would see them overtake today’s opponents in the league table. As Sandefjord rarely manage to get points away from home, let alone score, I’m going to stick with a home win but also recommend under 2.5 goals at 10/11. I expect the actual scoreline to most likely be 1-0. A Tromso outright win is priced at approximately 8/11.

Sunday’s Picks

My tips:

The bets I like the look of today are listed below:

Tromso vs Sandefjord – home win (8/11), under 2.5 goals (10/11) – see introduction at the top of the page for full details.

New Zealand vs Spain – -4 goal handicap for Spain. Seldom have I been so confident on an International side winning a competitive game at the finals of a tournament, but Spain are one that I have the utmost faith in to do so. Simply put, they’re the best side on the planet, and I truly mean that. Their ability to not only pass the ball around and create chances but to score the chances efficiently whilst always displaying flair and brilliance is unmatched on an International level. You saw what they did away to Azerbaijan last match in a friendly – 0-6. The hosts were far from the greatest of opposition but they generally hold their own and Baku is no place for a side without motivation, but the Spaniards simply annihlated their opponents with no difficulty. It’s their ability to overwhelm sides like this that make me think giving Spain a -4 goal handicap to beat New Zealand at 7/2 could prove very fruitful as New Zealand are really a very poor outfit, arguably the worst in the Confederations Cup.

Palmeiras vs Cruzeiro – home win at evens. Both of these sides are very good but Cruzeiro’s start to the season in terms of away form has been non-existent. In all fairness, they’ve only played two away games in this particular campaign, but they’ve lost both without even scoring a goal, one of which was against lowly Nautico. Aside from those facts, Palmeiras have won two and drawn one of their three home games so far this campaign. For those reasons, I expect Palmeiras to really seize on their home advantage and overcome today’s visitors comfortably.

Qingdao Jonoon vs Shenzhen – home win at 6/10. Both sides are enduring a difficult start to the Super League but the hosts are the ones really stamping their authority on their vital home games, currently boasting a bizarre 100% record at home. The reason it’s bizarre, however, is because they’ve only played three games at home this season out of ten whereas most sides in the division have played at least five. Either way, the visitors today are very poor on the road with just one point collected from a possible twelve so a home win looks on the cards here today!

Jaro Pietarsaari vs RoPS Rovaniemi – home win at 4/5. The hosts boast a good home record this season with two wins and one draw from three home games. I can only see that increasing against lowly RoPS Rovaniemi who have a disastrous away record this season with one draw and three defeats on the road. This is partially due to their lack of quality, no doubt, but that useful home advantage of being so much further north than most Veikkausliiga sides certainly has its disadvantages when it comes to away games. RoPS Rovaniemi will be buoyant from their recent victory over high-flying HJK Helsinki, but the league leaders were jaded from three games in six days and a trip to Jaro Pietersaari is a tough one at the best of times. At 4/5, I think this is a steal!

Stjarnan Gardabaer vs Fram Reykjavik home win at 3/4. This is possibly the bargain of the day. Stjarnan Gardabaer are proving a really tough opposition for the Landsbankadeild Karla faithful, even managing an impressive and disheartening draw at Keflavik last match. They currently boast a 100% record at home and they host a side that has lost both of their away games this season and are struggling to get to grips with themselves. I can’t justify the reasoning behind the bookies giving 3/4 other than Stjarnan Gardabaer being new to this division, but I am quite prepared to take advantage of their potential laxity!

Odd Grenland Skien vs Bodo Glimt home win at 4/6. The hosts have won four games from five at home this campaign, drawing the other game. Bodo Glimt have lost three and drawn two of their away games this season. These facts in themselves spell out a home win, let alone when you consider that Odd Grenland Skien have only lost one from their last five and the visitors have lost their last two in a row. I’m happy the bookies have dealt us a generous hand here and I can only put it down to Odd Grenland Skien being a new addition to the Tippeligaen this year.

Aalesunds vs Viking Stavanger – home win at 6/4. This is a game that could become profitable if it goes according to plan. Viking Stavanger have the better squad but are seriously under-performing in this campaign and are drastically out-of-form. They’ve lost three from their last five games and only won once on the road this season. Aalesunds, however, are enjoying a purple patch, having won three from their last five. They also boast a home record with three home wins, two draws and one defeat in this campaign. All of the above tells me to expect a home win but to approach with caution as Viking Stavanger are something of a sleeping giant, one that shouldn’t wake for this game…

Haugesund vs Lov Ham Bergen – home win at 8/11. Haugesund boast four wins from four home games this campaign and have won three from their last five games overall. This bodes somwhat ominously for Lov Ham Bergen strolling along as they enter this game on the back of a draw against Mjondalen, a side they should really be beating. That may have knocked them slightly but their recent form is still impressive with three wins from give games, like their hosts. However, Lov Ham Bergen have only won two from their five away trips this season so I’m swayed towards a home win. I think the bookies are being a bit unkind with the odds for this game as it could be a lot closer than the odds indicate, but nonetheless I think there’s still some value to be had here.

Skeid Oslo vs Alta – away win & draw at 4/7. Skeid Oslo gained what might appear to be an impressive draw last match at Moss, but this was largely aided to an absence of first team players on Moss’ part. Skeid Oslo still have to accept that they’re currently the worst side in the division. Today they entertain Alta, who have only lost one game from their last five, boasting three wins in the process. For that reason, I’m liking the look of taking Alta to draw or win the game at 4/7.

Bryne vs Kongsvinger – home win & draw at 8/15, possibly even just home win at 17/10. Despite their deceptively poor league position, Bryne are a good side but are struggling financially, as are various sides in the Adeccoligaen. They’ve struggled to establish themselves this season but their home record does show traces of what I’m saying as they’re one of only two sides in the division unbeaten at home despite being third from bottom in the league. Their problem is goalscoring, as they’ve drawn four home games from five. However, they’ll certainly motivate themselves for a game against Kongsvinger, a side whom by all rights they should be competing with this season for promotion to the Tippeligaen. I imagine this will leave a bitter taste in the mouths of the hosts. Couple that with the hit-and-miss away form of Kongsvinger (2 wins, 0 draws, 2 losses) and there’s a potential upset on the cards here. I fancy home win and draw at 8/15 but home win outright is possible at 17/10.

FK Moscow vs CSKA Moscow – away win at 5/6. CSKA Moscow are one of the most dangerous sides in the league when they perform and in this season, their best performances have come away from home. They boast an impressive four wins from six games on the road. The hosts are no slouches themselves, however. FK Moscow are currently unbeaten at home this season with three wins and two draws from five games. However, despite their impressive start to the same campaign, they’re not really a match for their more illustrious opponents, especially when CSKA Moscow will be geared up even more than normal due to the derby status of this game, albeit a minor one. I can only see an away win here as Zico prepares his side very well for the big games; it’s the small ones he lets himself down in…

Saturn Moscow Oblast vs Lokomotiv Moscow – away win at 11/8. Lokomotiv Moscow are something of a sleeping giant in this division but talismanic leader Yury Semin has now returned to the club from Dynamo Kiev to try and reignite their glory days. There’s few managers that Lokomotiv Moscow players would make such an effort for when compared to Yury Semin. I fully expect the away side to be completely up for this game and emerge victorious against a meager and miserly Saturn Moscow Oblast, especially as their home record shows they’ve only managed to win one game at home this season from six attempts. I’d advise caution, however, as Lokomotiv Moscow haven’t won away from home this season – yet!

Assyriska Sodertalje vs Ljungskile – home win at 4/6. The hosts have won four from five home games in this campaign and although entering this game on the back of a defeat, they look good value to beat Ljungskile today. The visitors have only won one game from five away from home this season. They have also only won once in their last five games overall so their morale is low. Assyriska Sodertalje will be looking to bounce back swiftly from their defeat and return to their excellent form which has seen them win four games in their past five overall. I can only see a home win today and whereas 4/6 isn’t the most generous of odds, it should still be worthwhile.

Aside from the above bets, the following trebles look intriguing and likely without the odds being too bad:

Internacional, Kemi Kings, Castellon
Suduva Marijampole, Valerenga, Mjondalen
