Vasas Budapest vs Ferencvaros
FreeToday’s featured game is in the Hungarian Soproni Liga and features financially-troubled Vasas Budapest and giants Ferencvaros. The hosts have understandably struggled for form this year and I thoroughly expect that trait to continue. Despite being newly-promoted, Ferencvaros are arguably the biggest side in Hungary, and certainly one of the most successful of all time in Hungary. Whereas they can’t currently boast the best squad they’ve ever had, they’ve still got a squad good enough to win the game here today. A morale-boosting away victory to MTK Budapest in the Hungarian Cup a few days ago means they enter this game with the confidence to win away from home and Vasas Budapest are certainly ripe to taste defeat, particularly after an embarassing 3-1 defeat at home by Nyiregyhaza Spartacus. 4/5 on an away win here seems ridiculous to me, given the above information, but take it whilst you can!

Vasas Budapest vs Ferencvaros – away win at 4/5 – see introduction for full details.
Austria Karnten vs SV Ried – away win at 5/4. This is a slightly dubious bet but one I do like. SV Ried are pretty much confirmed as the fifth best club in Austria – too good for the stragglers, not as good as the Austrian “big four”. They’re an incredible home side but a really dodgy away side, which is the only reason I’m dubious about this game. However, what has swayed me is that Austria Karnten currently have a horrendous record of four defeats from four games. They’re looking a real candidate for relegation and lost this fixture last season despite SV Ried’s feeble away record. For those reasons, I’m calling an away win at 5/4 and I’m hopeful the visitors will finally start to win away from home on a consistent basis.
Beroe vs Chernomorets Burgas – away win at 13/10. Newly-promoted Beroe are up against it today as Chernomorets Burgas have made a flying start to the season. Beroe have notched up a win and a defeat after promotion but aren’t quite as good as the visitors today. Chernomorets Burgas won’t finish where they are now but they’ll have another good season, I’m sure. An away win at 13/10 looks inviting.
Inter Zapresic vs Sibenik – home win at 9/10. Interestingly, Inter Zapresic have made a very strong start to this season with two wins and two draws. It’s interesting because some of those results are very credible when they’re not actually that good a side, hence my caution with the game. Sibenik aren’t much better than Inter Zapresic and their form suggests they could be on the receiving end of a defeat tonight. Momentum is a strong thing at the start of any season so I can see a potential home win here. It looks worthwhile at 9/10.
Atlantis FC Helsinki vs AC Oulu – away win at 3/4. Despite a mid-season slump AC Oulu are beginning to get back on track with two wins from their past two games. The damage done could have been a lot worse for them but fortune has dictated that most of their surrounding rivals have beaten each other so AC Oulu still occupy second place in the table. They travel to Atlantis FC Helsinki, who can’t match most sides in the division, let alone one of the best sides. I don’t see 3/4 lasting long on an away win so take it whilst you can.
Salernitana vs Frosinone – home win at evens. Be careful because it’s the first game of the season for both clubs and Italy is notorious for dodgy games. However, Salernitana are a bigger and better side than Frosinone, even if there’s not too much in it. Their home form was good last year and Frosinone’s away form wasn’t good. All of those combined lead me to believe that a slender home win is on the cards at evens.
Estudiantes Tecos vs Pumas UNAM – home win at evens. This game has me more curious than anything. Mexican games are very interesting because they have a stupid league setup and most sides in their division(s) can beat each other. This game, for instance, is between what was two of the better clubs last season. This season, Pumas UNAM have lost four games from four and hosts Estudiantes Tecos have won one, drawn one and lost one. There’s not an awful lot between these two clubs but I’m riding the momentum card in a home win here at evens.
Top Oss vs FC Zwolle – away win at 6/5. This is quite dubious considering that FC Zwolle haven’t won any of their two games yet. However, the fact remains that they are still a good side and really should be in the mix for promotion this season. Top Oss will do well to achieve a mid-table spot this season, in my opinion. If this game was mid-season, I’d be a lot more confident with it but because it’s still early season, I’m emphasising a little caution. Still, 6/5 on an away win here could prove to be very good value.
Zaglebie Lubin vs Ruch Chorzow – away win at 7/4. I can’t grasp odds of 7/4 on this game at all. Newly-promoted Zaglebie Lubin have made the kind of entrance to the Ekstraklasa that all promoted sides hate – three straight defeats. They’re not a good outfit and now they don’t have momentum, form or morale behind them, they’ve got one hell of an uphill task ahead of them to gain some points, especially against an in-form Ruch Chorzow. Despite an opening day defeat to Wisla Krakow at Reymonta, Ruch Chorzow have won the two following games and enter this one with some good momentum and some decent ability. With that in mind, an away win looks fairly imminent so odds of 7/4 could prove to be one of the bargains of the day.
Brasov vs Universitatea Craiova – home win at 11/10. I’m a big advocate of Universitatea Craiova but they’ve just not started this season well enough at all. I was hoping they’d have another good campaign and they may still but their current form isn’t encouraging. Today they travel to a good Brasov side, the only side in the Romanian Liga to have remained undefeated all of last season. Their home ground is a real fortress and I expect it to be the same again for an out-of-sorts Universitatea Craiova. 11/10 on a home win looks a steal here.
Port Talbot Town vs Llanelli – away win at 11/10. Despite a disappointing start, Llanelli are still one of the best sides in Wales, no questions asked. Port Talbot Town had a very good season last year by their standards but they’re still not in the same league as Wales’ “big three” – Llanelli, Rhyl and The New Saints. Whereas I’ll be cautious because of the slow start, an away win looks a good bet at 11/10. I wish they’d give odds like this mid-season!
Aberystwyth Town vs Welshpool Town – home win at 4/5. Aberystwyth Town had a strange season last year. At one point they were pushing the leaders and were the team to beat. Then they slumped and couldn’t seem to get points anywhere. One thing is for sure, it should be very interesting to see what happens this season as a result of it. However, one fact that is true is that they are better than Welshpool Town. I don’t think it’s fair to say they’re a lot better but they’re still better by a significant amount. To me, that’s important in the early stages of the season because that’s when form is only just beginning. That said, the hosts got off to a flying start already this season with a 4-0 win against Caersws. This will have given them at least a little momentum to defeat a Welshpool Town who lost their opening game 1-0. I can’t see 4/5 sticking around long but I’m confident it’ll happen so take it at whatever you can get it at.
