VPS Vaasa vs JJK Jyvaskyla

I don’t think many of us were expecting USA to overcome Spain, were we? That was a fair shocker! USA played with tenacity and dogged perseverance. Effectively, they are the International equivilant of Stoke City. Spain looked good and frankly dominated the majority of the game but it just wasn’t there night – balls not falling correctly, shots blocked, stupid defensive blunders. I daresay that’s cost a few people some money, unfortunately. It’s intriguing how riding your luck is still the only way to beat Spain, however!

Moving onto today’s featured game in the Veikkausliiga between VPS Vaasa and JJK Jyvaskyla – the hosts are looking good for a home win here. They’ve won four games on the bounce now and are beginning the climb away from the relegation zone. Meanwhile, newly-promoted JJK Jyvaskyla find themselves worryingly deep into the relegation battle and have to start getting results to clamber away from it. However, I can’t see that occurring today, having lost two and drawn one of their three away games this season whilst scoring just one goal. They’re not big conceders on the road – in fact, they’re about average for a Veikkausliiga side presently. Ironically, VPS Vaasa aren’t good goalscorers at home either, managing just six goals in five games. However, JJK Jyvaskyla have lost three of their last four games and I don’t think even their win against out-of-form FC Lahti will have buoyed them sufficiently to get a result here. Atypically, I’d go for a home win here and stay under 2.5 goals based on the above information but given the sharp contrast in form between these two clubs, I’m sorely tempted to back VPS Vaasa with a -1.5 goal handicap at 12/5 because they are capable of a 2-0 win. It’s a risky game to play but one I think could well be profitable, so long as they don’t let themselves down ala Odd Grenland Skien yesterday. Either way, a home win is on the cards, whichever method you choose to back it with.

Thursday’s Picks

My tips:

In all honesty, the only game I like aside from the one mentioned in today’s introduction is backing Brazil to beat South Africa with a -1.5 goal handicap for painfully obvious reasons that I feel no need to go into.
