The visitors have a very good record against Wigan Athletic in the Premier League, having won every encounter between the two sides. Last season, the holders had to win at Wigan Athletic to make sure of the league title and they did so 2-0 under intense pressure, so this game shouldn’t prove a difficult hurdle for the world champions. Since that time, Wigan Athletic have lost two massively influential footballers in Emile Heskey and Wilson Palacios, losses they’ve not been able to compensate for – yet. Steve Bruch is a very good manager – he should be as he learned a lot of his footballing career at Manchester United! – and has already done wonders for the Wigan Athletic team. I’ve no doubt he’ll continue to do a fine job for the club also, including replacing those influential footballers. However, for me, this game has a 0-2 scoreline all over it – Manchester United are simply too irresistable at the moment, whatever squad is named on the day.
