Today’s free tip is in the Swiss Super League encounter between Servette and St. Gallen.
So St. Gallen are underdogs in Geneva, huh? That’s interesting. They can’t go without losing forever but I’d be surprised if it was tonight, especially based on what Servette have shown lately.
There aren’t many bigger advocates of Servette than me but the fact they had to come out publicly lately to state that they still want to win games just in case a European spot is available should tell you all you need to know about their level of commitment lately; no other club has had to issue such a statement. Honestly, in their defeat against Young Boys Bern, they were as bad as I’ve seen them in ages. I partially attribute that to Geiger’s new obsession with playing a 4-5-1 for reasons far beyond my comprehension, and partially attribute it to the disinterest of the players. At no point did they look like they were in that first-half, and an improved performance after the break was too little, too late.
Yes, they get Imeri and Diallo back here, along with a few others, but if the team isn’t interested then they’re not going to get anywhere. I also find that Geiger is frustrating me at the moment – and I’m not even a Servette fan. He refuses to play Bedia through the middle with any continuity, despite him being the only striker they’ve got left, and Servette being crap without a focal point. He keeps changing the central midfielders so they’ve lost their cohesion, and his obsession with switching from their tried and tested 4-3-3 is just causing more and more problems. Ultimately, Servette are going too many things wrong at the moment – which is why I favour St. Gallen.
Earlier in 2022, St. Gallen ripped teams apart with swashbuckling attacking football. They’re still capable of doing that, but they’ve actually matured since then and found a better balance. They’re still not what I’d call defensively competent, but they’re a lot better at it than they were, partially thanks to Maglica’s consistency and partially thanks to the form of Ait-Zigi. They’ve won a lot of games because of it, whether they’ve played well or not, and those wins have bred confidence. This is now an extremely confident group of players, one that can even cope without Duah sometimes.
The health situation at St. Gallen is better now than it has been in months. You can tell how strong a position they’re in by the fact that they’ve not rushed Kempter and Luchinger back into the eleven after a long time out. Those two are by far the club’s best full-backs, and it shows at both ends of the pitch – but Zeidler is happy to wait for them to gain fitness at U21 level instead. Everybody is pulling their weight, everybody is on the same page, and the team has become absolutely ruthless in front of goal. There’s nothing to dislike about St. Gallen, and no reason whatsoever to believe that they’ll lose in Geneva.
For my money, backing the underdogs with draw no bet cover makes 100% sense.
Verdict: St. Gallen to win with draw no bet at 11/10.
