The odds are rising on the away win here and I have no idea why. I have heard that Polish striker Wilczek will join Czech forward Kliment on the sidelines today, as may Finnish defender Arajuuri, but that’s still no reason to doubt the Zealand club.
Brondby are playing some of their best ever football. It doesn’t matter how often they play; they’re capable of outscoring any team in Denmark, and FC Nordsjaelland are not an exception. There are too many match-winners in this Brondby squad for them to be doubted, in my view, and they cannot afford to mess up here, given that they’ve just beaten FC Midtjylland in their own backyard – again! Brondby need to build upon that and that involves winning today.
I cannot realistically doubt Brondby though. I’m a pretty cynical fella by nature but even without Wilczek and Kliment, there’s still Pukki, Tibbling, Mukhtar, Halimi, Christensen – need I go on? They’ve won almost all of their tough fixtures lately, even from impossible positions. They’ve demonstrated extraordinary mental strength and utter conviction of their ability to win games. I just can’t doubt this team; they’re absolutely fantastic, and they completely deserve to win Denmark’s Superligaen this season, which a victory today would take them a step closer toward.
Earlier in the season, FC Nordsjaelland beat Brondby 3-2 at home. However, there’s been a significant change in their ranks since then with star midfielder and leading goal-scorer Marcondes leaving to join Brentford. Since then, FC Nordsjaelland have only scored ten goals in six games, which is not a lot for a team that constantly attacks. Indeed, it’s also not a lot for a team that frequently concedes.
Look, FC Nordsjaelland are used to selling players – that’s how they stay afloat. They deserve every respect for giving kids a chance in the senior team and constantly producing some really talented players of the future. I really like what they do, and I enjoy the way that they play football. Therefore, losing someone like Marcondes isn’t going to affect them as much against the likes of Hobro or Silkeborg. However, it is going to affect them in bigger games because they have less creativity and less leadership in the final third without Marcondes. They’ve struggled in all of their tough games in 2018 for that reason and although I doubt that any Danish team works harder than FC Nordsjaelland, you need a bit more than that to handle or even rival this Brondby team and without Marcondes, they just don’t have that.
Given Brondby’s fixture list of late, I would be surprised if they won this game easily. I think it’ll be a real slog for them. However, if this game is played as openly as I think it will be, then there’s no good reason to doubt the table-toppers picking up yet another three points today.
Verdict: Brondby to win at 22/25.
