Today’s free tip is in the Hungarian Liga 1 encounter between Paksi SE and Puskas FC.
I don’t like opposing a team every week but I almost feel compelled to keep opposing Puskas FC because it’s simply the right thing to do. Besides, I gave them a week off when they hosted newly-promoted Varda SE last weekend so it’s back to opposing them I go!
You know what’s hard about opposing Puskas FC, though? Every couple of months, they put on a display that reminds everybody of how good they actually are. It’s just that, as the group of mercenaries that they unquestionably are, they lack consistency and motivation. All the money poured into the club doesn’t go to waste, you know – they sign good players! It’s just that, as a unit, Puskas FC simply don’t function very often, as has been indicated by their poor results so far this season.
By contrast, hosts Paksi SE always fight hard. They’re the unsung heroes of Hungarian football. They almost always have entirely Hungarian footballers in their squad, and they only bring players in that are prepared to sweat blood and tears for the cause. The end result is a team that has tremendous passion and togetherness, even if they’re a bit short of quality.
Don’t be fooled by Paksi SE’s recent form chart either. They’ve had horrible games against reigning champions Vidi, title challengers Ferencvaros, and European candidates like Budapest Honved and Ujpest. This is the first relatively straightforward game that they’ve had this season, and given that I think that they’ve performed pretty well in their tough games, I think Paksi SE stand a good chance of piling further misery upon Puskas FC today.
Paksi SE stand for everything that Puskas FC do not. The visitors may have better names but they lack the cohesion and determination of their hosts. This won’t be a pretty game, and I’d be surprised if it were entertaining, but it’s one that I believe Paksi SE are going to fight their way to victory in, particularly if Andras Simon can recreate his Gyirmot form of a couple of years back.
Verdict: Paksi SE to win at evens.
