Today’s free tip is in the German Bundesliga 2 encounter between Paderborn 07 and Greuther Furth.
Newly-promoted Paderborn 07 is rightly the favourite to win this game. Chances are that they will, based on their consistently high motivation levels and their effectiveness in the final third. At 1/2, however, I see no value in backing that outcome whatsoever. They may be good in attack, the home team, but they do struggle to keep teams out so handicapping them requires a lot of elements to be in their favour in order for me to consider it and the absence of key midfielder Mohr and key defender Maloca for Greuther Furth is simply not enough, at least not for me.
Furthermore, I think it’s worth mentioning that Greuther Furth has more to offer than the league table suggests. The reason the league table isn’t kind to them is because only certain circumstances suit today’s visitors. When it comes to breaking teams down and making things happen from open play, Greuther Furth’s players tend to struggle. However, when it comes to counter-attacking with speed, they’re actually very good. Fortunately for us, the latter is very likely today because Paderborn 07 is an adventurous team at all times but especially so at home.
I believe Paderborn 07’s conviction and tenacity will probably see them edge this one but I trust in Greuther Furth to make them work for it. I wouldn’t say that the visitors can defend well on a consistent basis but when they put their minds to it and hold their shape well, most teams do struggle to score goals. I don’t honestly see Greuther Furth containing Paderborn 07 today though, not with key defender Maloca out. They’re going to have to be that bit more adventurous because they’re going to concede, and that paves the way for this to be a very interesting game indeed because few Bundesliga 2 teams can oust Paderborn 07 in a ding-dong affair.
Paderborn 07 has enough quality to worry Greuther Furth here, whether the visitors attempt to defend or not. Gueye causes problems in attack but it’s Tekpetey drifting out wide that does the most damage for Paderborn 07. He’s too good for this level, to be frank. With Zolinski, Michel, Gjasula, Vasiliadis, and especially Klement supporting them, it’s safe to say that the home team has many routes to goal. Their ageing, slow, and high line defence is likely to struggle against the speed and skill of players like Green, Atanga etc. though, whether Paderborn 07 manage to win the match or not so this should be an entertaining one to watch.
The above leaves me with the conclusion that we’re going to see an open game with plenty of chances and hopefully plenty of goals. These two teams drew 2-2 in August in the reversal of this fixture and an identical scoreline today would suit me just fine.
Verdict: Over 3 goals at 19/20.
