Ok guys, thanks very much for the support with the Bet365 link and banner clicking – it’s really good of you all! If you could please continue to do this whenever you remember then it’d be greatly appreciated, especially if placing bets at that time. Thank you!

Today’s featured game is the UEFA Europa League game in Luxembourg between Differdange 03 and Olympiakos Volos.

First of all, these odds are a complete joke. An average Greek side travelling to a decent Luxembourgian side and the odds are suddenly 1/10 or something ridiculous like that? Unbelievable! What’s even more funny is that people are buying into it too – I keep seeing people posting on forums about how Differdange are shit because they’re from Luxembourg, which is hilarious. Luxembourgian sides have only lost once in their home games in Europe over the past two years or so and Olympiakos Volos are poor travellers in Greece, let alone outside of it! Are we also forgetting that this side only became a Super League side last year? They’re novices in this competition!

I’ve also been reading how Differdange beat a “poor” Levadia Tallinn side from “weak” Estonia, which is funny. Levadia had their problems, it’s true, but Levadia had ten times more experience in Europe than Olympiakos Volos do! Differdange aren’t great but they’re resiient, dangerous, and well-organised, especially at home. Do you really think that Olympiakos Volos will come here and attack considering how they almost always counter-attack domestically, let alone in Europe? I’d be very surprised to see it. Differdange are a hard side to face on their own turf and I’ll be quite surprised to see a fairly average Olympiakos Volos side win here.

I think a draw is the most likely outcome here but the 1×2 market holds no value for me, much as the 1x option is very generously priced. Instead, giving the hosts a +1.5 goal head start at 11/10 looks to be laughably good odds to me so that’s my call today.

Verdict: Differdange to win with a +1.5 handicap at 11/10.

Thursday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Club Brugge vs Qarabagh – away win with +1.5 handicap at 11/10.

Are Club Brugge worthy of being as short as they are for this game? Only to an idiot! They may win the game – never write off any possibility in football – but this club is truly not worthy of such odds. Club Brugge’s squad this season is a lot different from last year. Star midfielder Vargas left for Anderlecht and a close second midfielder Perisic left for Bv09 Borussia Dortmund. Both players contributed heavily in terms of creating chances and scoring goals and given how poor Club Brugge’s strikers tend to be, this side has certainly taken hefty blows pre-season. They signed talented Belgium U21 striker Vleminckx from NEC Nijmegen following an excellent campaign in the Eredivisie last season and they also signed ex-Barcelona youngster Vasquez to improve their attack, not to mention experiencied Israeli attacker Rafaelov. I think they’ll be a threat in the Eerste Divisie when they’ve got used to one another but in this game? I just don’t see it, especially with half their defence – Hogli and Almeback – having barely been in the team for more than a few weeks!

Qarabagh are a bloody hard side to play against. They’re without a doubt the best Azeri side in many, many years and it shows too. They’re composed, good passers of the ball, good at counter-attacks, and overall a very dangerous side. Underestimate Qarabagh at your own peril – only Twente Enschede and Bv09 Borussia Dortmund have ever dumped this side out of European football and they both had tough games to do so. We didn’t see the proper Qarabagh at home to EB/Streymur in the last round, unfortunately, but they’re not used to being favourites so perhaps it wasn’t as big a surprise. They’re a good side, though – I rate them highly, especially as they have some players with good European experience i.e. Nedzipi.

I expect a far, far tighter game than the bookies do here. If Club Brugge do win this game – if – then I think it’ll be a narrow margin. To be honest, I can see Qarabagh stealing a “shock” result here but I’m not going to lay the hosts as they do have goals in them. However, taking the Azeri visitors with a +1.5 goal head start at 11/10 looks a bit of a bargain here.

Verdict: Qarabagh to win with a +1.5 handicap at 11/10.
