Today’s free tip is in the Russian Premier League encounter between Tambov and Arsenal Tula.
Although listed as the home team, it’s worth keeping in mind that Tambov will be playing in Saransk today as their own stadium is not currently suitable for the Premier League. It’s been that way since they got promoted so I am sure they’re settling in but still – this isn’t where the home team are from, and it could impact the level of support they get.
I’ve been really impressed with newly-promoted Tambov this season. They were given a baptism of fire, facing Zenit St. Petersburg and Lokomotiv Moscow on the road before hosting Spartak Moscow, all three of which are considered to be a lot better than Tambov. Despite that, in each game, Tambov held their own really well. Zenit St. Petersburg and Lokomotiv Moscow really had to work hard to make their quality count, and Spartak Moscow couldn’t even do that, losing 2-0 against Tambov in Saransk last weekend.
Despite not having much of a budget, Tambov have made some decent signings for the season ahead, bringing in experienced defender Oyewole from Anzhi Makhachkala, as well as his team-mate Markelov, who is an attacker. What I like about Tambov’s signings is that they’ve stayed true to their roots, bringing in hard-working, confident footballers with experience. There are no stars in this team, per se, but their togetherness, structure, and diligence makes them a very hard side to overcome. They’ve demonstrated how difficult they can be against some of Russia’s best clubs of late; I don’t see them suddenly changing their ways now they’re hosting a team that they can realistically hope to beat.
Tambov sure picked a good time to face Arsenal Tula, too. The visitors have seriously struggled so far this season. It’s not so much about their lack of results, per se, but more about the reason for their failings. Essentially, there’s an almost lackadaisical attitude in this squad, which is leading to the team not creating anywhere near enough chances. They looked absolutely spineless in both games against Neftchi Baku, hence their early exit from the UEFA Europa League. Despite a promising start to the season, Arsenal Tula just look disinterested and completely ineffectual. I don’t see today’s trip to Saransk being a simple one for the visitors.
This is Arsenal Tula’s fourth game in ten days, which they don’t have the squad for, especially not after a mid-week trip to Azerbaijan. I’m also not convinced about their squad for the season ahead. I don’t expect great things from this limited squad anyway but with star Montenegrin forward Dordevic now at Zenit St. Petersburg and key midfielder Mirzov at Spartak Moscow, this team lacks quality. If it’s not Tkachev then there’s no service for the frontman. Arsenal Tula took a punt on towering Romanian forward Tudorie as well as experienced forward Lutsenko so help out but this team needs more in midfield. I can’t see them breaking Tambov down as they are, to be honest.
With the way things are at present, I can’t help but feel it’s worth taking a punt on Tambov winning today. They look motivated, tactically astute, and effective. Arsenal Tula look lifeless. Therefore, my call is to back Tambov to win with draw no bet cover.
Verdict: Tambov to win with draw no bet at 83/100.
