Today’s free tip is in the Paraguayan Division Profesional encounter between Club Guarani Asuncion and River Plate.
I like this one, given the generous odds available. I can’t say that I entirely trust Club Guarani Asuncion to do a solid enough job to keep River Plate at bay here, but I saw enough in their derby victory over Libertad Asuncion to suggest that they should be comfortable tonight.
Goal-scoring was my main concern for them, given their frustrated displays against Guarena and General Diaz respectively. I thought they were excellent against Libertad Asuncion though, at least in the final third. I’d have preferred it had they done the damage without feeling it necessary to concede against ten men first, but they still looked good throughout the evening, pulling men all over the place with intelligent runs. I thought that their crossing was particularly on point on the night but let’s face it; they don’t need a blueprint to know how to score goals, Club Guarani Asuncion, no matter how form in previous games might lead you to believing otherwise. No, they’ve got Bobadilla to make things happen, and Fernandez to score the goals. What’s not to like?
Club Guarani Asuncion don’t tend to struggle with River Plate either, at least not at home. They did in their last meeting but that was a bit of a freak game, conceding two early goals, and then having Benitez sent off at a crucial point of the game. It wasn’t their day. In general though, Club Guarani Asuncion not only beat River Plate at home, but they do tend to handicap them as well. That can’t be considered a surprise, given the quality gap, but they still need to prove it on the pitch. If they attack as well tonight as they did at Libertad Asuncion though, they won’t struggle to handicap River Plate here.
River Plate won last time out, beating Sportivo Luqueno 1-0 away from home in a somewhat heated affair. There was nothing in that game that should concern Club Guarani Asuncion, though. Let’s not forget that River Plate had gone five competitive matches without a win prior to that, losing three of them. I can’t really fault the away team when it comes to effort, but their effectiveness in the final third is questionable at the best of times, largely because they significantly over-rely upon Perez. Ramirez had to score in their win last time out because Perez hasn’t scored since returning from the Covid-19 break though, and that’s a huge problem for River Plate as they simply don’t have a solution. It’s Perez, or nobody – and at the moment, it’s nobody.
It’s surprising to see Torales drop off as he has, though – he was instrumental last term, but hasn’t done enough in the current one. Viera has played his part to an extent, but the club losing Colman (Guarena) and Salinas (Sportivo San Lorenzo) pre-season is clearly still weighing down upon them for different reasons. River Plate still have the required energy and belief to get at teams; that’s a very Paraguayan trademark. It’s not use without goals though, and those goals are not materialising. That’s bad news at the best of times, but against one of the biggest and best teams in the country, it’s even more damaging.
Therefore, I’ll back Club Guarani Asuncion to do what they usually do in this fixture – beat the -1 Asian Handicap at 3/2.
